Arsenal News : Arsenal trials for yet another starlet but ain't it passe?

Nenad Lukic

Arsenal are said to have offered trials to the young Serbian winger, Nenad Lukic . The winger who has played for the national u-19 squad is deemed as one of the brightest star of the nation .The player has been lured by arsenal to spend some time at London Colney with a view of a permanent move .Earlier Arsenal were looking at the English Prodigy Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to fill the same position but now with the English lad demanding a hefty amount to force a move this may come up as a cheap alternative but it isn’t .It has been reported that the young Serb has been under the radar of big premier league sides like Chelsea and Manchester United .It is still uncertain whether the player who plays in the Bulgarian league with Lokomotiv Plovdiv will go on trials or for that matter on a permanent deal .With the player himself saying –

“Yes, I know about the speculation in the British media, but I am not thinking about it.”

“At the moment I am concentrating on the games for Serbia U19s and my club, Lokomotiv.

“Everything else and possible transfer talks, I am leaving to the people in my club.”

This gives a sense of déjà vu as Arsenal gave trials to the new Manchester City signing Stefan Savic in 2009 but later let him sign for Partizan Belgrade where he earned accolades and thus was snapped by the Manchester side. This is not the only case where someone turned down by arsenal at an early age was signed up by other clubs where the player excelled .Chelsea stopper Petr Cech was thought to be coming to Arsenal but he was not deemed physical strong enough to survive the English league . Cristiano Ronaldo ,Zlatan Ibrahimovich ,Wilson Palacios and Lassana Diarra are the names that come to my mind instantaneously with a lot of names that can be added to this list . A little bit of complacency or ill judgment goes a long way and Arsenal have faced the consequence although nurturing quite a few players to the top level but then see quite a few leave .

The current joke, that of Arsenal being a feeder club to Manchester City typifies how Arsenal have fared in the transfer market in recent times .The Nasri situation is not a one off case but each summer there is an unhappy player /players at Arsenal who cannot give in to the whole Arsenal system or The Arsenal way of football. Though its part and parcel of the game that the whole squad can not be kept happy nor is an Manager expected to keep everybody happy .But there is this whole bad omen about these cases that perhaps Arsenal is losing out in one way or the other and perhaps Arsene is losing out on his charm, his goodwill that was such a brand value to the club .The time when players were just lured by the name of Le professor and the thought of playing under his tutelage perhaps may be a bygone era .
