Liverpool player ratings against Atletico Madrid

Liverpool were not at their best but still managed to grind out a victory
Liverpool were not at their best but still managed to grind out a victory

Alisson - 8/10

The Liverpool custodian pulled off some vital saves to deny Antoine Griezmann, Joao Felix, Thomas Lemar and Yannick Carrasco.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6/10

Trent Alexander-Arnold's usual attacking spark was lacking. He also left gaps at the back, which Atletico Madrid exploited to score their second goal.

Joel Matip - 5.5/10

Joel Matip could've done better for both of Atletico Madrid's goals, but it wasn't meant to be.

Virgil van Dijk - 6/10

Virgil van Dijk arguably had his poorest game of the season thus far as he struggled to cope with Atletico Madrid's attacking intent.

Andrew Robertson - 7/10

Andy Robertson was Liverpool's best defender of the night. He drove forward with a lot of tenacity and purpose.

Naby Keita - 6.5/10

Naby Keita doubled Liverpool's cushion with a top-notch volley in the 13th minute but offered little else to the side. He was substituted at half-time.

Jordan Henderson - 5/10

The Liverpool skipper struggled to impose himself in the match.

James Milner - 6/10

James Milner was off the pace many times in the match. However, at 35, you cannot really expect much from the midfielder.

Mohamed Salah - 8/10

It was another productive evening for the in-form Liverpool talisman as he bagged two goals for his side. He continues to push his case for a top-three Ballon d'Or finish.

Roberto Firmino - 5/10

This was a massive decline in performance from Roberto Firmino, considering he scored a hat-trick at the weekend. He was never a goal threat against Atletico Madrid.

Sadio Mane - 6/10

Sadio Mane surprisingly had a poor game and was only helpful in pressing.

Substitutes

Fabinho - 6.5/10

Fabinho's introduction brought some control to Liverpool's midfield.

Joe Gomez - N/A

Joe Gomez did not have enough time to impact the game.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 7/10

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain injected a lot of energy into Liverpool's play when they appeared to lose momentum late in the game.

Diogo Jota - 6.5/10

He won a penalty for Liverpool and then nearly conceded one within four minutes.

Neco Williams - N/A

The youngster only came on to see the game off. However, it was nice to see him get some game time.
