Atletico Madrid sign Turkish international

Madrid, May 30 (IANS) Spanish Primera Liga outfit Atletico Madrid confirmed their second signing for the 2012-2013 season. The Europa League winners have signed Turkish international midfielder Emre Belozoglu on a two-year contract.

Emre, 31, has represented Turkey on 71 occasions and has previously played for Galatasaray, Inter Milan, Newcastle and Fenerbahce.

He comes on a free contract after the expiry of his deal with Fenerbahce and will arrive in Madrid Thursday to sign the contract which will see him play at the Vicente Calderon Stadium until the end of June 2014, reported Xinhua.

Emre arrives at Atletico Madrid just 24 hours after the announcement that the club agreed a four-year-contract with Uruguayan international Cristian Rodriguez, who also arrives on a free transfer after concluding his contract with Portuguese side, Porto.

Elsewhere, Athletic Club Bilbao, who lost to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League final, have extended the contract of forward Ibai Gomez for a further two seasons. The local born player, who had an excellent second half to the season, will now remain with Athletic until at least June 2014.
