Barcelona News: "I would rather sign Neymar than Antoine Griezmann,"- claims former Barca manager
What is the story?
Former Barcelona player and coach, Carles Rexach has given his opinion on who he would rather sign between Neymar and Antoine Griezmann. According to the former Blaugrana star, Neymar fits the profile of a Barcelona player more than Griezmann does and he would rather like to bring back the Brazilian than signing the Frenchman from Atlético Madrid.
In case you didn’t know….
Neymar’s name has suddenly popped up on Barcelona wish-list for this summer, as several sources have claimed the Blaugrana are now pushing to bring the attacker back to the Camp Nou.
However, Griezmann is also very much linked to the Catalan giants for the last few months, especially after he declared to part ways with Atletico Madrid a few days back. This is not the first time the French attacker has been linked with a move to the Catalan capital. Just like this year, the Atleti ace was also very close to joining Barcelona in 2018 until he made the decision of staying in Madrid for another year.
The heart of the matter
Carles Rexach, who netted 197 goals in 638 appearanaces for the Catalan giants during his playing days at Camp Nou, has blatantly opted for Neymar.
“Neymar now regrets his decision to leave. But Griezmann's case is even worse. He made a special show only to stay at Atletico Madrid last season and now he wants to join Barça. The train only passes through that station once," he said as quoted by SPORT.
“We knew Neymar’s flaws and virtues.”
"It's better to rely on the devil you know. He knows he made a mistake and that there's only two or three teams who hold the same pulling power of Barça, maybe Real Madrid and a couple more," he added.
He has also explained the tactical reasoning behind his desire to bring back Neymar.
"Neymar has the advantage because he's a skilful player, who gets in behind and is more complete. Whereas Griezmann looks like someone who only fits into the role that Messi currently operates in," he added.
Barcelona will play against Chelsea next in their first pre-season friendly on 23rd of July.
