What is the story?

A newly emerged report has come out today in the ongoing saga of Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt’s possible move to Barcelona. According to a famous Cat Radio and Esports 3 journalist, Oriol Domènech, the teenage Ajax captain is thrilled with the prospect of joining the Catalan giants and is very much eager to play for the Blaugrana.

In case you didn’t know…

Ajax teenage sensation Matthijs de Ligt has been heavily linked to Barcelona amid transfer interests from various other European heavyweights, including the likes of Juventus, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The Dutch prodigy has been sensational for Ajax this season and improved leaps and bounds in such a short time. The way he led Ajax throughout the season has caught the eye of several football clubs and pundits.

The 19-year-old center-back became the youngest captain in Ajax’s illustrious history and looked very much comfortable despite coming up against some of the greatest players in history during this season's Champions League. Although he failed to inspire Ajax to their first Champions League final since 1996-97 season, he consoled the Ajax faithful with a domestic double this campaign.

Barcelona’s chances of landing De Ligt seemed to be getting more and more complicated after several resources claiming that the Catalans are unwilling to raise their offer for De Ligt despite the pressure they have received to do so.

However, Sky reported recently that De Ligt has dumped the idea of playing alongside his national teammate Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool and all set to leave Ajax for Barcelona this summer.

The heart of the matter…

According to Oriol Domènech (via SPORT), the Ajax sensation is “crazy” about wearing the famous Blaugrana shirt from the start of next season.

Mr. Domènech has also denied De Ligt’s raised financial demands, which is well reported in the last few days in both Catalan and Dutch media.

What's next?

With various stories developing each and every day, it still remains to be seen where De Ligt will land next summer.
