Joshua Kimmich was one of the best players for Bayern Munich in 2020, which was one of the best calendar years for the German giants in recent memory. An unfortunate knee injury to the star midfielder kept him on the sidelines for almost two months.

He made an appearance from the bench in their 2-1 win over Leverkusen but in his first start since November, he put in a good shift in the middle of the park.

He even scored Bayern Munich's first goal of the night which set the pace for their impressive second-half comeback.

#2 Hansi Flick's shrewd substitutions helped the hosts get some defensive solidity

Bayern Munich had the majority of the possession in the game but it was their wastefulness and inability to prevent Mainz from attacking on the break that saw them concede two goals in the first half.

Flick decided to take off veteran defender Jerome Boateng after a dismal first-half performance. The Germany international was at fault for going down to easily from Burkardt's challenge that led to the game's first goal and even picked up a yellow card very early on in the game.

Niklas Sule, who provides a much better presence in the air, replaced Boateng and apart from a better defensive display, he even got himself on the scoresheet.

Flick also decided to bring in Leon Goretzka in place of Benjamin Pavard, which paved the way for Kimmich to move into the right-back spot. Kimmich provided a greater threat from the flanks as the game progressed.

His astute substitutions, alongside a stern talk in the break, seemed to have inspired his team to a massive 5-2 win against Mainz.

When you're the best player in the world, scoring match-winning goals is of paramount importance, and Robert Lewandowski fits the bill perfectly.

The Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year winner added a quick-fire brace to his name on Sunday night, as he scored the hosts' final two goals to seal the three points for his side.

The Poland international, who has gotten off to a great start in 2021, could even try and break Gerd Muller's record of 40 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign this season. Lewandowski has 17 Bundesliga goals to his name in the present campaign.
