Chelsea fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the club is not looking to sign flamboyant defender David Luiz in this transfer window.

The David Luiz transfer rumours started just a few months after his £21 million move from Benfica. Barcelona are reportedly a huge fan of the Brazilian.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich – after the arrival of Guardiola – have been linked with a £40 million bid for the player. This would represent a huge profit for Chelsea. However, Guardiola’s latest statements have confirmed that Luiz will not be heading to the Allianz Arena.

“David Luiz will not be coming to Munich,” Guardiola said. “I have four, five central defenders who I am very pleased with.”

After Mourinho’s arrival became official, Luiz has been strongly linked with a move away from the club. Luiz has a great set of qualities that make him endearing to the fans, but he is not the ‘Mourinho’ type defender. Mourinho has always preferred someone rock solid, like a Ricardo Carvalho or John Terry. Luiz, though, makes numerous mistakes that may not endear to Mourinho.

Some of the recent statements by Mourinho have indicated that though he may not be a fan of Luiz, he is willing to work with the 26-year-old to make him a better defender. The threat from Bayern Munich may have gone away, but the prying eyes of Barcelona still remains.

After their failure to capture Thiago Silva, Barcelona could well turn their attention towards Luiz. New Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has stated that the club needs a new central defender.

Would you keep David Luiz or take the £40 million?
