Bayern Munich Tour 2016/17 fixtures: List of pre-season friendlies the Bundesliga champions play

Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping to bring back the Champions League to Germany

Well, it’s already July, a new face has already started working at the Sabener Strasse in Munich. A renowned person, Carlo Ancelotti, is the successor of Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich. A calm and composed figure, Ancelotti has huge experience as a coach, with the 57-year-old having won the champions league 3 times as a coach before. He’s also one of the few European-born managers to have bettered the win percentage with each club that he managed.

Bayern have made no delay in the transfer market by snapping up Portuguese sensation Renato Sanches who’s been a revelation in Euro 2016 so far. They’ve also brought back Mats Hummels which will add to the defensive solidity in the club. Sebastian Rode has joined Dortmund while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is also expected to leave alongside Medhi Benatia.

Bayern Munich face Borussia Dortmund in the 7th edition of the DFL-Supercup at the Signal Iduna Park on 14th August before their Bundesliga season kicks-off at home to Werder Bremen on the 26th of August. They travel to face FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

Previous Season At A Glance:

Pep Guardiola’s final season at Bayern in his 3-year tenure was fairly successful. Bayern Munich comfortably dominated the Bundesliga and sealed title victory for the record 26th time. They lost the season opener DFL-Supercup to Wolfsburg on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after added time.

They dominated the DFB-Pokal and Bayern clinched victory over Dortmund in the final after beating them in penalties.

The champions league was, as usual, the competition where the media put pressure on Bayern and Pep to succeed. They, as expected ,topped the group stage and did prove their mettle by coming back from 2-0 in the return leg at Allianz Arena against Juventus to win 4-2 at the end of extra time in the round of 16. They defeated Benfica in the quarters before facing eventual runners-up Atletico Madrid in the semis. A wonderful solo goal by Saul Niguez gave Atletico a 1-0 victory at the Vincente Calderon in the first leg. In the return leg, it was now or never for Bayern and they played some brilliant attacking football which stunned Diego Simeone and his men and Bayern eventually won 2-1 that night only to exit the competition on away goals.

They had made key signings like Joshua Kimmich, Douglas Costa, Kingsley Coman and Arturo Vidal which were simply long-term investments for the club.

Pre-Season Friendlies 2016-17 Season:

Carlo Ancelotti will have his first training session on 11th July. Their first game is on 16th July when they travel to North-Rhine Westphalia region to play SV Lippstadt before hosting Manchester City at home in the Allianz Arena on 20th July.
