Big Captains fail to deliver and Managers only have a week of planning until the blanks: Fantasy Premier League Tips – Gameweek 29 Reviewed

GW29 saw another low scoring week with the 2nd lowest average score for the season (40 points) flying by. One of the big reasons behind this was the failure of most of the ‘Big Captain Picks’ not bringing an attacking return, other than 1 assist from Eden Hazard. Top of most polls this week saw:

1) Hazard (6)
2) Sterling (3)
3) Salah (3)
4) Aguero (2)
5) Pogba (-2)

It’s generally unheard of and is a big driver behind the low scores. Another reason it was a low scoring week was only 2 of the top 10 scoring players this week have over 10% ownership (Alexander-Arnold – 18.4% & Jiménez – 36%) and the average score of the top 20 most popular players this week was 3.75.

Jiménez is just the gift that keeps on giving this season and is possibly the value MVP. Another 12 point haul this week makes him the 11th top scoring player in the game and only Virgil Van Dijk is cheaper than him with more points! 3 shots, 4 key passes, 1 assist, 1 goal and 3 bonus made for a wonderful GW29. The one word of warning is that he doesn’t have a fixture in GW31 – so now may not be the time to bring him in.

I tweeted about this weekend’s top points scorer, Declan Rice, around half an hour before the deadline – that I was considering bringing him in. I didn’t make the move, and it cost me 15 points! 1 goal, a clean sheet, and 3 bonus points from his one shot at the weekend. West Ham have a lovely run of fixtures over the next 3 and he’d be one of my ones to watch this week.

Finally, I thought I’d leave you with some confirmation as to who don’t play in GW31 to aid you with your planning. You’ll need to either bench these players or move them out (unless you’re playing your Free Hit or Wildcard chip)
