It was a bullish performance from Bayern Munich as they brushed aside their eternal rivals Borussia Dortmund by 4-0 at the Allianz Arena. It was more like a deja vu performance, as the Bavarian giants have repeatedly bullied BVB in this fixture.

In the 17th minute, Robert Lewandowski kicked off proceedings with a header, and Die Roten went on to completely have a stranglehold on the first half.

After the break, it was more of the same, as BVB seemed devoid of ideas going forward. Serge Gnabry doubled the lead mere minutes after the break, as he scored a fine poacher's goal.

Lewandowski went on to put the game beyond doubt in the 76th minute, and Mats Hummels capped a horrendous BVB performance by scoring an own goal ten minutes to the end of the encounter.

The Polish international continued his mean streak by scoring early on in this high octane fixture, calming frayed nerves and setting Bayern up nicely for an emphatic victory in front of a bloodthirsty home crowd.

It was Lewandowski's 23rd goal of the season, and he has scored in 11 consecutive Bundesliga encounters so far. He went on to score a brace in the 76th minute, extending his lead at the top of the league scorers chart with 16 goals.

Bayern will need their lethal finisher primed and ready for the battles ahead if they are to successfully navigate this transition and stay in the hunt for an umpteenth Bundesliga crown.

It's a fixture dubbed 'Der Klassiker', Germany's answer to the famous El Clasico battles between Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, Borussia Dortmund have been accused of lacking motivation during the recent renderings of this battle.

Bayern Munich won the encounter 5-0 last term and also ran out 6-0 winners the year before that. In this clash, BVB were characteristically overrun once again at the home of their bitter rivals.

Die Roten came into this encounter with the spectre of a humiliating loss to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, and with managerial uncertainty hovering over the Allianz Arena. Despite all that, interim manager Hansi Flick and his charges managed to navigate the slippery slope in bullish fashion.

At the end of the encounter, Bayern's 4-0 win was well deserved, as they had 18 shot attempts to BVB's 2. Manuel Neuer had nothing to do all game, as Lucien Favre's men didn't have a whiff of the target throughout the game.
