Celta de Vigo 2-2 Barcelona: Player Ratings

Barcelona v Celta Vigo - Copa Del Rey
Celta Vigo once again proved to be a thorn for Barca

Celta Vigo (Jonny 45', Aspas 82') 2-2 Barcelona (Dembele 36', Alcacer 64')

Celta de Vigo and Barcelona played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Balaidos on Tuesday evening. It was an even first half but Ousmane Dembele put Barcelona in front in the 36th minute.

But, it did not take long for the hosts to respond as Jonny scored on the stroke of halftime. A Paco Alcacer goal midway through the second half provided the Blaugrana with some much-needed breathing space from an attacking Celta team.

But a Sergi Roberto red card in the 70th minute changed the complexion of the game and they made it count as their talisman Iago Aspas equalised to give his side hope of possibly going ahead and securing the win but missed chances hurt Celta Vigo and Ernesto Valverde's men hung on to a point.

Here are the player ratings:

Celta de Vigo

Celta de Vigo v Barcelona - La Liga
Aspas was Celta's standout player

Sergio Alvarez - 6/10

The Spanish goalkeeper had a comparatively less workload against the Barcelona attack in the absence of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Daniel Wass - 6/10

The Dane was playing out of position, in a right-back role but he did a fair job defensively accumulating three clearances.

Sergi Gómez - 7/10

Gomez was excellent when it came to competing in the air against Alcacer especially, winning four aerial duels on the night.

Facundo Roncaglia - 7/10

The Argentinian proved to be a great asset for Celta when it came to regaining possession of the ball intercepting six passes and offensively putting in seven successful long balls.

Jonny - 7/10

The defender scored the much deserved equalizing goal for Celta, popping up in the box following a break in attack and tapping it from two yards out.

Stanislav Lobotka - 7/10

Lobotka proved to be a rock in the centre of midfield as he made it hard for the Barca attack to release balls into the box winning a total of six tackles.

Jozabed - 6/10

Jozabed was lucky to have not received a yellow card for a severe foul on Andre Gomes. The midfielder had a glorious opportunity to put Celta ahead ten minutes into the second half but his poor technique let him down.

Pione Sisto - 6/10

Sisto had a disappointing game as he was wasteful in front of goal and lost the ball on numerous instances, getting dispossessed four times.

Brais Méndez - 5/10

Mendez had two shots on target and completed two key passes but just like his fellow winger too lost the ball on four separate occasions.

His service into the box was also a let down as he failed to put in any successful crosses or long balls to Iago Aspas.

Iago Aspas - 8/10

Aspas unfairly received a yellow card for a shoulder challenge on Yerry Mina with the minimal of contacts.

He put in an excellent all-round performance and scored the equalizer for Celta despite having a stroke of fortune to make it 20 goals in La Liga this campaign.

A beautiful through ball by the former Liverpool man late on was failed to be converted leaving him in disappointment at the final whistle.

Maxi Lopez - 7/10

Lopez had a clear-cut chance to give Celta an early lead but got carried away and missed a sitter from six yards out, shooting it straight at Ter Stegen.

However, an excellent recovery from a lose Aspas pass resulted in him providing the assist for the equaliser.

Substitutes

Nemanja Radoja - N/A

Replaced Jozabed in the 73rd minute.

Emre Mor - 7/10

Made an instant impact after coming on for Sisto in the 79th minute, putting in the cross that led to the second goal for Celta.

Lucas Boyé - N/A

The Argentinian had a golden opportunity to win the game for Celta but lack of composure and an extra touch cost him, totally fluffing his attempt.

Barcelona

Celta de Vigo v Barcelona - La Liga
Dembele continued his recent patch of good form

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen - 8/10

It was a busy night for the German international as he was pulling out saves left right and centre as well as making two vital clearances.

He was unfortunate to have the ball deflected off him right into Iago Aspas' chest leading to the second goal for the home team.

Nélson Semedo - 7/10

Semedo provided the pass for the second goal after a quick one-two with Dembele and then putting it across for Paulinho.

Thomas Vermaelen - 6/10

Vermaelen was the leader of the back four in the absence of Pique and Umtiti, putting in a satisfactory performance on a rare starting opportunity against a strong Celta attack.

Yerry Mina - 7/10

The Colombian was one of Barcelona's best defenders on the night, tallying up seven clearances and win two aerial duels.

Lucas Digne - 6/10

Digne was all right going forward but tracking back he put in a decent showing successfully making two tackles and interceptions respectively.

Denis Suárez - 5/10

The midfielder had a very disappointing outing. He did not have much of an influence in Barcelona's attacks as he completed only 79% of his passes and on the other hand was losing the ball too, getting dispossessed thrice.

Paulinho - 6/10

The Brazilian ended up in getting rewarded with the assist instead of the goal for Barcelona's second as his shot was deflected by a Celta defender with Alcacer getting a slight touch at the far post.

André Gomes - 5/10

Gomes was on the receiving end of a nasty challenge from Jozabed which left him in an uncomfortable state for a few minutes.

He was at the fault for Barcelona conceding as his failure to close down Lopez led to a Jonny tap in.

Philippe Coutinho - 6/10

In the absence of the big names, it was an ideal opportunity for Coutinho to prove his worth but he could not take control of the game and did not have much impact on the left wing.

Paco Alcácer - 7/10

Alcacer scored a Harry Kane type of goal as a slight touch of his stretching right foot on the far post was enough for him to be credited with the goal.

Ousmane Dembélé - 8/10

Dembele scored a stunning left-footed half-volley to break the deadlock for the Catalans. The 20-year-old seems to have settled with the style of play in Barcelona as he played his part in the second goal too putting Nelson Semedo through in the 18-yard box.

Substitutes

Lionel Messi - 6/10

Messi took the place of Coutinho in the 60th minute and didn't take him long to make his presence known.

But with a minimal contribution, the Argentinian did not prove to be the cutting edge on this occasion in Barcelona's search for three points.

Sergi Roberto - 2/10

Replaced Gomes in the 60th minute and 10 minutes later was sent off for pulling the shirt of Aspas when he was through on goal.

Aleix Vidal - N/A

Came on for Dembele in the 77th minute.
