Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson - 7.5/10

He kept his fifth clean-sheet in a row in this game and Ederson's distribution made it easier for City players to hit on the counter. Moreover, what caught the eye of everyone at Stamford Bridge was the Brazilian keeper's consistent efforts to come off the line every time he anticipated a through ball by the Chelsea midfield. Ederson quelled many dangerous many runs between the lines during the entire game.

Kyle Walker - 7/10

The City right-back did not have a lot of defensive work to do, due to Alonso's restricted positioning in the game. This also gave Walker the much-needed freedom to go forward and he did it justice by creating a lot of chances by sliding in through balls into the final third.

Ruben Dias - 7.5/10

A brick wall for Pep Guardiola's side, Dias hardly put a foot wrong in the entire ninety minutes. His only mistake was fouling Lukaku after being caught out of position, for which he attracted a booking from Michael Oliver. Nevertheless, he deserved every ounce of applause he got from the away fans.

Aymeric Laporte - 6.5/10

Though Laporte did not have much defensive work to do compared to the Chelsea defensive line, he found himself a bit shaky at times whenever he was up against Romelu Lukaku. In fact, he lost all the duels with the Belgian and fouled him twice to get the first yellow card of the game.

Joao Cancelo - 7.5/10

A midfielder in a defender's disguise, Cancelo executed Pep's plan to perfection. Overlapping and underlapping Jack Grealish almost every time the Englishman made a run, Cancelo kept at least one Chelsea man busy in marking him, all thanks to his positioning.

Bernardo Silva - 7.5/10

The Portuguese midfielder was the link between the backline and the overwhelming front-three for the entire ninety minutes. His sleek line-breaking passes bypassed Chelsea's midfield often and put the hosts in danger of conceding almost every time his pass reached the final third.

Rodri - 6.5/10

Though Rodri played his part really well in the first half, the next 45 minutes saw him being rattled by Mateo Kovacic. He very well lost his battle with the Croatian as he was seen miscuing some passes and clearances in the end due to fatigue. The misplaced passes resulted in some good chances for Chelsea through throw-ins and interceptions, which could have cost the Spaniard's side.

Kevin de Bruyne - 7/10

One of the best playmakers that the Premier League has ever seen, De Bruyne was amazing with his ball control and first-time passing during the game. The Belgian failed to make a clear-cut impact on the game, but his presence was enough to keep Chelsea on their toes for the entire 81 minutes that he played.

Gabriel Jesus - 9/10

The match-winner and scorer of the sole goal at Stamford Bridge, Gabriel Jesus overcame the bullying by a physically loud Antonio Rudiger to win the game for the reigning champions. The Brazilian was lucky that his shot was deflected by Jorginho before going in, but he deserved every bit of luck, thanks to his never-give-up attitude throughout the game.

Phil Foden - 6.5/10

Foden played upfront in a striker-less formation deployed by Pep Guardiola, but that reduced his capabilities majorly during the game. He was closely monitored by the Chelsea defenders every time he even went near the ball and that made it very difficult for the Stockport Iniesta to create anything meaningful during the game.

Jack Grealish - 7/10

The new Manchester City number ten went all out against the Chelsea defenders, attracting fouls, making crucial runs and almost feeding two assists to his team-mates. He literally played the exact part that Eden Hazard used to play at Stamford Bridge for the hosts, slowing down the game on the flank and then creating something out of nothing. He could have done better, though, with all the possession he was offered during the game.

Substitutes

Riyad Mahrez - 6/10

By the time Mahrez came in for Kevin de Bruyne, Chelsea had already moved up a gear and City were defending their goal with their backs against the wall. This left the Algerian no choice but to play out a defensive contribution rather than weaving magic through his amazing left foot.

Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling, who came in for Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, respectively, did not have much impact on the game during the dying embers of the clash at Stamford Bridge.
