#3 Impressive Tammy Abraham sends out a statement of intent

Having started from the Chelsea academy, Tammy Abraham had to undergo several loan spells before making a name for himself with the Blues.

However, despite his phenomenal goal record, the England international is yet to become an undisputed starter. However, his performance against Luton underlined his great instincts as a striker.

All three of his goals showed great positioning awareness and superb finishing from the 23-year-old.

His hat-trick against Luton takes him 25 goals from just 47 starts in all competitions for Chelsea. Beyond his goals, the former Aston Villa man also gave an all-round performance which sent a statement of intent about his readiness to lead the line regularly.

#2 Ball controversy in the build-up to Chelsea's opening goal

There were vehement complaints from the Luton players when Chelsea went ahead, and the visitors were well within their rights to do so.

Camera replays showed that the original ball had not gone out of play before another ball was thrown onto the field by Hakim Ziyech.

This minor confusion saw some of the Luton players rooted to the spot before the hosts went ahead.

Based on the rules of the game, the goal should not have stood but the referee was uninterested in the complaints.

#1 Timo Werner's struggles continue

Timo Werner's move to Chelsea has not gone according to plan. Having ended a 13-game goalless run for club and country against Morecambe, the Germany international would have sought to build from that.

However, he blanked in consecutive games against Fulham and Leicester City and failed to find the back of the net against lower opposition.

A golden opportunity was handed to him five minutes before the end of the game when referee Coote awarded a penalty for a foul on him.

Werner stood up to take the ensuing penalty but his tamely struck shot was well saved by Simon Sluga.

This was the first penalty miss by the 24-year-old since October 2018 while he was still with RB Leipzig, ending his run of converting eight consecutive penalties.

It also continued Chelsea's poor record from the spot this season, with this being the fourth spot-kick missed by the Blues.
