Chelsea Controversy - Hazard red carded for kicking a Ballboy

Chelsea never seem to be more than a stone’s throw away from controversial incidents, and once again we find ourselves under negative spotlight.

Don’t believe what they say folks, not all forms of publicity are good publicity.

So, late on in the semi-final League Cup tie against Swansea, ballboy Charlie Morgan decided to time waste by keeping the ball away from Eden Hazard as he was trying to retrieve it.

The 17-year old ballboy sprawled his entire body over the top of the ball, and in trying to toe poke the ball out from underneath him, Hazard made contact. The contact was arguably very minimal and he definitely made the most of it, but this is still not an excuse.

Here is what happened;

This was an incredibly stupid move by Hazard which will bring serious consequences, however the ball boy is far from blameless here. His twitter account was found almost instantaneously, and his pre-game tweets shed a slightly different light on the scenario;

Charlie Morgan (the ballboy) is far from an innocent party and should be punished/banned accordingly. He hash-tagged “needed for time-wasting, so he was planning on pulling a stunt like this from the start. The fact that he intended to do something like this will be a mitigating factor for the FA to consider, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Swansea hit with some sort of fine.

Both Hazard and Morgan were clearly in the wrong. The problem is that this is all going to add to our negative image. Bad publicity has been a big issue for us recently, and this comes as a double whammy alongside the suspension of Hazard, which could be extended for a long while, depending on the FA’s decision.

The question is: when are we going to stop providing the press with unlimited ammunition!?
