Chelsea favourites to complete signing of PSG superstar

Antonio Conte will be thrilled if this transfer does indeed go through

What's the story?

Ever since the infamous penalty bust-up at PSG, the future of Cavani has been subject to intense speculation and now latest odds from famous bookmakers Paddy Power make Chelsea favourites ahead of Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona and even Everton in the race to sign the Uruguayan striker.

The Premier League Champions are 11/2 favourites to sign the PSG striker while Real Madrid, Everton and Barcelona are offered at 15/2, 10/1 and 10/1 respectively. There were talks about Cavani reportedly agreeing a deal with Juventus as well, but the Blues are said to be ahead of everyone else and are ready to offer the £55 million they received from Costa's sale to sign the 30-year-old frontman.

Future Chelsea star?

After the very public bust up on the pitch with Neymar, it seems like Cavani's position has come under increasing risk at PSG. Also, the Ligue 1 giants need to balance their books for FFP regulations and the sale of Cavani might help them in that regard.

Players like Draxler and Lucas Moura have been linked with an exit as well, but Cavani remains the most high-profile name who could leave PSG as early as the January transfer window.

The heart of the matter

Although Morata has made a blistering start to his Chelsea career, Conte is still on the lookout for more attacking options. The Italian has not been convinced by Batshuayi's performances so far and a proven goalscorer like Cavani could just make the Blues from a very good team to a great team.

PSG, on the other hand, could be looking to get rid of the 30-year-old and balance their financial books before they come under UEFA's scanner. Also, with Cavani and Neymar not seeing eye-to-eye, a move abroad could be possible for Cavani in January.

Another interesting subplot is the fact that Everton have also been heavily linked with the prolific striker. The Blues have received huge financial backing from new owner Farhad Moshiri and the Merseyside club are also preparing an audacious bid for the Uruguayan sharpshooter.

Author's take

While PSG will be hoping that Cavani and Neymar sort out their issues, player's egos are sometimes too big and the Ligue 1 giants might have no other option than to sell the 30-yea-old in January.

Strong and physical, Cavani will definitely suit the Premier League and it will be interesting to see if Conte does indeed manage to sign the 30-year-old in the January transfer window.
