Interesting move!

What’s the rumour?

Chelsea have made a move to sign Paris Saint-Germain's Layvin Kurzawa according to Di Marzio. The Italian journalist claims that The Blues were frustrated with the lack of progress in the deal with AS Roma to sign Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri and thus made a swift move for the PSG star.

However, Di Marzio claims that talks will resume between the two clubs (Chelsea and Roma) today and if a deal isn't finalized, only then will Chelsea make an official move for Kurzawa. The French left-back has been labelled as their 'Plan B' by the transfer specialist.

In case you didn’t know…

Chelsea only have Marcos Alonso as their left-back option and have been searching for a backup option. Alex Sandro was linked with the club for a long time before Alex Telles was reported to be their 'Plan B'.

With nothing materializing in the two deals, Chelsea made a move for AS Roma's Emerson Palmieri and reports suggested that the left-back was ready to join The Blues. There were reports that he has agreed personal terms with the club as well and was waiting for the clubs to agree on a deal for him.

Rumour probability: 7/10

Chelsea are still keen on signing Palmieri, according to Di Marzio. The Italian will be the backup for Marcos Alonso and that is exactly what Antonio Conte wants.

The Italian manager has played Kenedy, Davide Zappacosta and even Victor Moses on the left side of the defence this season, but none of them have been impressive there. Kenedy was the only one to play well in that position but he has been loaned out to Newcastle United for the rest of the season.

Author’s take

Yet again, Chelsea are settling for a B+ player. The club really needs to start signing players who can challenge the starting XI for their places in the team and not just get players as backup options.

The backup options should be good enough to feature regularly and that is very important for a club that aims to win something or the other every season.
