Chelsea to sign Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez?

Mario Gomez of Muenchen tries to score with a header against Julian Schuster and Jonathan Schmid (R-L) of Freiburg during the Bundesliga match between SC Freiburg and FC Bayern Muenchen at MAGE SOLAR Stadium on November 28, 2012 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.

Chelsea are planning to make an official approach for Bayern Munich star Mario Gomez with misfiring Fernando Torres yet to find his long lost form back, reports website caughtoffside.com.

The German international has been hotly chased by the English side recently, and reports suggests that a bid above £50 million will be adequate enough to lure the striker.

Gomez’s starting spot in Bayern Munich could be already in danger with new signing Mario Mandzukic brilliant form recently. The Croatian international has scored 11 goals in 12 games so far this season.

Mario Gomez was Bayern Munich’s top goal scorer last season, so Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes won’t be keen to let the striker go.

With Rafa Benitez being named as Chelsea’s new manager, it would be interesting to see how things work out with him in Chelsea, while the odds of Chelsea buying a new striker seems pretty high with Chelsea being linked with Atletico Madrid striker Falcao every now and then.

“He’s not exactly the same player now, because he was at maximum level at this time (at Liverpool). But I think he can come back. How close? I don’t know. It depends on the rest of the team,” said the manager.
