Chelsea Transfer News : Van Aanholt joins Wigan on a season long loan

Wigan Athletic have signed Chelsea defender Patrick Van Aanholt on a season-long loan. Van Aanholt becomes the 2nd Chelsea player to sign for the Latics following Franco Di Santo, who made his 4 million pounds switch earlier this summer.The 21 year old left wing back , who is considered as an ideal replacement for Ashley Cole, has not featured for Chelsea in the current season after impressing one and all in the pre-season including the Wigan Boss who feels his versatility will aid Wigan in their bid to stay in the Premier League.

“Patrick is a player with enormous potential” said Martinez.

“Technically he is very gifted, very comfortable in possession and physically, he uses his intensity to defend very effectively.

“He can play left-back or left wing-back and without a doubt he’s got a phenomenal career ahead of him.

“We rate Patrick really highly and his professionalism and his personal attributes will be a huge asset to us this season.”

Van Aanholt becomes Wigan’s 2nd signing on deadline day following the arrival of Shaun Maloney from Celtic.
