Wigan Athletic’s newly appointed manager, Owen Coyle, has said that he is extremely happy to be the new Latics boss. The 46-year old takes over from Roberto Martinez, who left the club to join Everton. Coyle was previously the manager at Championship club Bolton Wanderers, before he was sacked in October 2012.

“I felt it was important that I did not take a job for the sake of taking it. It was important I took the right job, which I feel Wigan is,” he said.

Wigan were relegated to the Championship, but managed to win the FA Cup last season defeating Premier League giants Manchester City 1-0 in the final. Chairman Dave Whelan has set the target of getting back in to the top flight as their number one priority.

However, Coyle will have to deal with the situation of a couple of players leaving the club.

Left-back Maynor Figueroa has joined Hull City on a free transfer, while players like Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Joel Robles might head back to their parent clubs after their loans expired.

Coyle has been assured by the club that the money from the sales will be reinvested to buy new players.

“In regards to numbers, we must add some.

“We accept there are some hugely talented players left here, who will be coveted by other clubs. The chairman has shown through the years that he will not stand in any player’s way if it is the right deal for the club.

“What I do know is that any money will be reinvested into the club, which for a manager, is a huge thing to hear,” he added.
