Cristiano Ronaldo says he told Zinedine Zidane he had a vision he'd score the winning goal

Ronaldo won the third Champions League tirle of his career against Atletico Madrid on Saturday night

Speaking to the media after Real Madrid’s penalty shootout victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final, Cristiano Ronaldo said he had told manager Zinedine Zidane about a vision that he would score the winning goal in the Champions League final.

Ronaldo took Real Madrid’s fifth penalty which turned out to be the goal which won Real Madrid their 11th Champions League title. Ronaldo said he’d told Zidane before the match that he would score the winning goal. He said, “I knew I would and I did".

He added, “I had a vision, I saw I'd score the winning goal. I asked Zizou to let me take the fifth penalty because I knew I was going to score the winning goal".

The Portuguese forward dedicated the victory to the fans saying, “It is a very special moment, and it is well deserved for the players and the fans, who've always been there for us."

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, who won the Champions League with them in 2002 became only the seventh manager to win the Champions League both, as a player and coach. Commenting on the Frenchman’s achievement, Ronaldo said, “Zidane has done a phenomenal job and he deserves it because he's a gentleman and is humble, so I'm happy for him."

Meanwhile, Croatian midfielder Luka Modric who won his second Champions League title with Madrid, both against Atletico, said that the Champions League trophy belonged to Real Madrid. He said, “This is the competition of Real Madrid. This trophy belongs to Real Madrid, that's why Real Madrid is the best club in the world.”

The final had been a closely fought affair after Sergio Ramos had put Real Madrid ahead early in the first half in spite Sergio Ramos appearing to be in a slightly offside position when the ball was delivered.

Yannick Carrasco, having come on for Fernandez in the second half made a difference for Atletico by scoring the equaliser late in the second half. The match went to extra time which ended goalless.

Real Madrid scored all five of their penalties while Atletico full-back Juanfran missed Atletico’s fourth penalty, leaving Ronaldo to score the winning penalty for Los Blancos.
