What's the story?

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has once again been snubbed out of the Serie A's Best XI despite leading the Old Lady to the Champions League quarter-finals just last week.

In case you didn't know...

Juventus are on their way to win their eighth consecutive Serie A title as they sit a comfortable fifteen points clear at the top of the league table.

The league leaders only faced their first league defeat of the season against Genoa on Sunday as Max Allegri rested Ronaldo.

The Bianconeri have also progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League courtesy of Ronaldo's individual heroics during the second leg against Atletico Madrid.

The 34-year-old showed up to once again haunt his old rivals as he scored three goals to overcome the Madrid outfit's first leg two-goal lead.

With a Cup win in the bag and an inevitable domestic title win soon to come, Juventus are looking at the Champions League as the final piece to fulfil their hopes of a treble.

The heart of the matter

Despite all his achievements in the past week alone, Ronaldo was snubbed from Opta Paolo's winter best Serie A XI. What adds to the surprise is the fact that not a single Juventus player was included in the team.

Opta's data has revealed AC Milan's Gianluigi Donnarumma to be the goalkeeper with Lazio's Francesco Acerbi, Inter Milan's Stefan de Vrij and AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli to complete the three-man back line.

Napoli's Piotr Zieliński and Sampdoria's‏ Dennis Praet are in midfield with Atalanta's Alejandro Darío Gómez on the left and Napoli's José Callejón on the right.

The team's attacking line includes Napoli's Arkadiusz Milik, AC Milan's Krzysztof Piątek and Atalanta's Duván Zapata.

This is not the first time Ronaldo was snubbed from the Serie A XI as he was also omitted from the team back in February.

What's next?

When league football returns after the international break, Juventus will face Empoli in the Serie A on March 30.
