Daily Transfer Updates - 16th August

Manchester United have made the biggest move of the off-season so far as they are set to complete the signing of Robin van Persie from arch rivals Arsenal.

United agree deal for Robin van Persie with Arsenal

United fans around the globe celebrate as Manchester United have agreed a deal with Arsenal to bring their talismanic striker and captain to Old Trafford.

The deal was confirmed on both clubs’ websites with Arsenal also mentioning that the Dutch international would be travelling to Manchester on Thursday to agree personal terms and undergo a medical at United.

The deal is valued at, although unconfirmed, at 22.5 million pounds and a further 1.5 million in add-ons depending upon the success of the Red Devils in the Premier League.

If the deal goes through as expected, van Persie will become just the 3rd player to switch between the two clubs in 40 years after Mikael Silvestre and Viv Anderson.

United are also set to complete the signing of Angelo Henriquez from Universidad De Chile for a reported fee of $ 5.5 million. The club have had a first option on the player since 2009 and moved quickly to sign the player.

Manchester City were rumored to have made a last minute bid for the Chilean but United, whose scouts have tracked the player on a monthly basis since 2009, warded off the competition with ease.

The striker has completed a medical and has admitted he will be meeting his new coach ( Sir Alex Ferguson) very soon.

Modric saga finally nearing end

The Luka Modric to Real Madrid saga seems to be coming to an end with a 30 million pound bid reportedly being agreed between Tottenham and Madrid.

The Croatian is expected to fly to Madrid for a medical and sign the contract after appearing for his country in a friendly against Swirtzerland.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was so far adamant over his demand of a 40 million pound transfer fee being met. But with the player himself demanding a move and even refusing to train with the club, Levy has been forced to drop the fee.

Man City target free agent Drenthe

Manchester City are stepping up their activity in the transfer market, with free agent Royston Drenthe reportedly their next target.

The winger played on-loan at Everton from Real Madrid last season with reasonable success. His five year contract with the Galacticos recently expired and he is now considering various offers.

His agent made the revelation that City had made a surprising enquiry for the player, with newly promoted West Ham also interested in signing him.
