Former Chelsea star David Luiz has come out in support of John Terry saying the club should hand the Blues captain a new contract. The Brazilian defender has demanded the club show more respect towards his former teammate.

Speaking to the Mirror he said,”John is probably Chelsea's greatest ever player, the club need to show him some more respect,”

It’s clear the PSG man holds Terry in high regards and he wants Chelsea to act quickly on the matter saying, “He has been clear that he wants to stay at the club, and they are making him wait for an answer.”

Terry has reiterated his desire to stay at the club and finishing his career where he started out as a youth player. Terry has been a loyal servant for eighteen long years winning the Premier League title four times as well helping them lift the Champions League.

Luiz who had a three-year spell as a Blue partnered Terry on several occasions and lifted the Champions League in 2012. Having played with him, Luiz knows how much the fans love Terry and wants the club to handle the situation better stating, “That is not how you treat a player who has given you so much and been a big part of so much success. The fans love John -- if this is not handled well, they are not going to be happy”

The central back feels Terry is the currently the best defender in the Premier League and has backed up the former England International to stay at the club.

"I am confused why John hasn't been offered a new contract. He is still the best central defender at the club and one of the best in England,” he said “there should be no question about him being offered another a year.I really don't know what to say, the whole situation has confused me. I think it's obvious to everybody he deserves an extension.” he added.

Former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf has also requested the club to extend his contract as he will be a role model for youngsters in the team.

Leboeuf to ESPN FC, “Considering what he did for the club and what he can bring maybe after his career, maybe it would be clever to reconsider the position of John Terry,"

"I think he can help the young players, but also for the first team to get better.”

"His experience is absolutely crucial and he can still bring something good for the team. After his career I'm sure he has a future at the club and can help the club even better than it is right now”.

PSG face Chelsea in for the third time in the Champions League

David Luis’ PSG will face Chelsea for the third year in a row in the round of 16 of the Champions League. PSG knocked out the London club at the same stage last season and will be looking to replicate their efforts once again.

Terry will be unavailable for the clash after suffering an injury against Newcastle on Saturday during their 5-1 win. Chelsea are unbeaten in all competitions since Guus Hiddink took charge and will be looking to continue that momentum into Tuesday night’s game.
