Ernest Hemingway was a good writer but he wanted to be great and that was when he realized that less is more. Talking about a person for hours and hours doesn’t state who he is but putting all that in a single word does. We have seen the description of Man Utd defenders in a single word in the part one of this article. Now, its time to finish off the rest.
Anderson – Choke
Anderson came to Manchester United from Porto with loads of expectations and a hefty transfer fee. Till date, he has been nothing but a choke. Frequent injuries, horrible form and thorough inconsistency has put him in that place. Manchester United are missing that one quality young player in the midfield and he has just been a disappointment.
Michael Carrick – Inconsistent
Carrick is a person who can have a string of good games. But the fact that he can also have a string of bad games make him inconsistent. We all know that Michael Carrick has class. That 30 yard winner against QPR is a true attestation for that. But, he fails when the team needs him the most, he gets bullied and he is outright miserable on some nights.
Tom Cleverley- Expectation
Tom Cleverley is undoubtedly the best player from the United academy after Fergie’s Fledglings. We all knew that this guy was special after that 2-1 victory over Barcelona in a friendly. A lot is expected from him to fill the shoes of Paul Scholes and if he can improve his fitness, he sure as hell looks destined for it.
Darren Fletcher – Nostalgia
How bad we miss the days when Darren Fletcher used to be in the heart of United’s midfield. He was not as silky as a Sneijder or as talented as a Xavi but he made up for all that through his work ethic. Fletcher has been on an extended sabbatical from football due to his inflammatory bowel disorder. We pray to the almighty that he lives long and plays football for many more years to come.
Paul Scholes – Legend
If you play top level football for 17 years, retire, then come back and dominate like the Ginger Prince, you most certainly deserve the title “Legend”. Paul Scholes. Enough said.
Park- Ji – Sung – Enigma
You never know when Park will pop up into the starting XI. He has only scored 27 goals in his 205 appearances at United but most of those goals must have been against strong oppositions. Sir Alex sees him as a big match player but he has always been an Enigma, you never know when he is going to come good.
Nani – Growth
Nani has grown in stature over the last few years. When Ronaldo left, he was supposed to fill that void. Although he hasn’t done that, his growth has been impressive. He scores vital goals, he assists and he is a great character on the field. Nani is destined for greater things, let us wait and see how his career pans out.
Ashley Young – Theatrical
Yes, I’m sorry. Although Young is a great talent, at this moment, the one word that describes him the best is theatrical. Man Utd players are not known much for their theatrics on the field but Young has taken that too far. Let us hope that he stops doing that and concentrates on his football.
Antonio Valencia – Acceleration
When Valencia runs in the right wing deceiving the full backs, what you think off is acceleration. Valencia has been the stand out player for United this season. With his speed and physique, he is capable of taking on any defense and that is what he is doing now.
Ryan Giggs – Wizard
said Sir Alex Ferguson and how correct he was!
When you play 22 years of club football for a top team like Manchester United, you got to have something special. Ryan Giggs is special, a wizards who will never be replaced.
Danny Welbeck – Improvement
Danny Welbeck is undoubtedly the most improved player for United this season. After coming on to the team after a loan spell at Sunderland, the England international has just been superb. He is a regular player in the Starting XI and that is something he deserves.
Javier Hernandez – Unlucky
Despite scoring 12 goals in limited appearances this season, Hernandez finds himself on the bench. Although Welbeck has been really good, there is nothing wrong that Hernandez did to lose his place in the starting lineup. Hope he proves Sir Alex wrong and makes his way to the lineup once again.
Michael Owen – Mistake
Let us be fair about it. He was well past his prime and we frankly don’t know what Sir Alex expected out of him. He has been constantly injured and out of form on other occasions. Michael Owen is a great player but his transfer was a mistake.
Dimitar Berbatov – Misfit
You really can’t blame Berbatov rather you can blame Sir Alex for benching him. Berbatov is a class act but he is a misfit in the United lineup. Manchester United are well known for their bursts ups, counter attacks and fast movements and Berbatov doesn’t fit into any of these. If he has been at a club like Juventus or Inter Milan, he would have been their player of the season. Let us hope he moves out and proves his mettle.
Wayne Rooney – Heartbeat
After Ronaldo and Tevez left United, Rooney became the integral part of their attack. But, Rooney didn’t do just that, he played in the wings, he played midfield and he even defended on some occasions. Rooney’s work ethic, work rate and desire to play makes him the heartbeat of Manchester United.
