EPL Gameweek 15 round up : Liverpool wins, City held,Chelsea and Manchester United stunned

Gameweek 15 saw Liverpool continued their purple patch in front of goal as a Suarez inspired them to a 4-1 over West Ham at the Anfield.Meanwhile, Southampton arrested their losing streak as they held City to a 1-1 draw.City’s away woes continued as a determined Southampton held on to share the spoils at St.Mary’s stadium. Finally, Chelsea and Manchester United were stunned by Stoke and Newcastle United respectively. Stoke scored a last minute goal in a thriller as they won 3-2 against the blues while Newcastle piled the pressure one Moyes as they beat United 1-0 at the Old Trafford which was the first time in over 40 years.

Suarez was on form as Liverpool won 4-1 against West Ham

Luis Suarez was once again the destroyer in chief as The Reds thrashed West Ham 4-1 at Anfield. 29 attempts on goal by Liverpool was proof enough of their dominance as they climbed the Premier League table to go to second place.A lively first half saw West Ham keep the scores at nil-nil.But an own goal from Demel meant that the Reds went into half time 1-0 up. A quick start in the second half saw Skrtel score for Liverpool and then followed it up with an own goal to give aWest Ham a respite.Kevin Nolan saw red with a nasty challenge on Henderson but it was Suarez all the way as he scored twice in the final ten minutes to seal the win at Anfield.

Assaidi’s last gasp goal downed Chelsea

Chelsea were stunned at the Britannia Stadium by Stoke city. Stoke had scored just five goals till today at home but scored three against Chelsea.A late goal from substitute Oussama Assaidi was enough to seal the win for Stoke as birthday boy John Terry and his team endured a disastrous evening that saw them slip up in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard’s 100th assist in the league and Schurrle finished it to give Chelsea the lead in 9th minute. But Stoke pulled back through Peter Crouch before Stephen Ireland gave Stoke the lead early in the second half. It did not last long as Schurrle scored his second as Chelsea equalised. The game seemed to be going for a draw but substitute Assaidi fired a brilliant 25 yard shot in the final minute of regulation time to condemn Chelsea to defeat in the Britannia Stadium.

Osvaldo curled a brilliant one against Manchester City

Manchester City’s away woes continued as they were held to a draw. City started the first half brightly and it was Aguero who was the star man as he scored in the tenth minute to give city the lead.However, stunning curling strike by Pablo Osvaldo close to the end of first half leveled the scores for The Saints.

Southampton were without the injured Victor Wanyama and Nathaniel Clyne as Pochettino fielded a weakened line up against the Citizens.But the team proved to be equal to City’s expensively assembled squad and ensured that they came from the game with a point.

Aguero and Lallana were in the middle of all the good moves of Manchester City and Southampton respectively. A late introduction of Dzeko was not enough as Saints held on.

Cabaye celebrates on scoring against Manchester United

Newcastle inflicted a defeat on Manchester United that did not happen even in Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.Newcastle for the first time at in over 40 years won at Old Trafford 1-0. A goal from Cabaye in the second half ensured three points for the Magpies.

The first half only doled out a lot of fouls and a few chances that could hardly be classified as even half chances for both teams.Newcastle had slightly more possession but it was the hosts duo of Januzaj and Chicarito that looked the most dangerous when they had the ball. Close to half time,Loic Remy sent pass that caught Evra napping as Debuchy made a late run and had a shot which David de Gea parried with one hand.

The second half began similar to the first half. At the hour mark, it was the visitors who took the lead as Sissoko won possession high up on the left side of United and cut back for Cabaye to finish the move.

Robin van Persie returned from injury for United and it seemed he had equalised for United in the 72nd minute only to be called offside. Evra then had a header from a Nani corner which seemed to hit Vurnon Anita on the hand on the goal line but the referee waved it off.

Moyes rang the changes after the hour mark and brought in three attackers but to no avail as United failed to create anything of note in the final third.

Newcastle contained United’s attack and a Wilfried Zaha curler that went wide beyond the far post was the last meaningful action for United. The frustration showed as fans left early as Magpies managed to shut out United at the end to win the game and inflict a second successive defeat.

Arsenal could be ahead by 7 points at the top of the table if they win their game against Everton tomorrow.
