EPL Transfer News: Shaun Wright-Phillips Wants Man City Stay

Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has stated his desire to remain at the club next season in spite of being behind the pecking order and being overlooked for much of last season. The 29 year old said that he had feelings for the club and would be more than happy to stay I they chose to renew his contract.

SWP expresses City desire

Speaking to English media outlet The Sun, SWP said-

“I’m working hard and I have no intention of going anywhere else,”

“If they want to keep me I want to be here. That would be my ideal scenario and I’ve told the manager that.

“Everyone knows my feelings for the club, but let’s see what happens.”

Wright-Phillips was pegged back by the signings of James Milner, David Silva and Adam Johnson and hardly got any appearances last season. He is currently with City on their pre-season tour of North America and has hugely impressed Mancini thus far. He started and scored in the match against Club America on Saturday.

Mancini gives stamp of approval to SWP

Mancini also responded positively to Wright-Phillips staying on next season, and said-

“Shaun played very well and I hope this year can be a good year for him.

“He is a good guy and every time I need to choose a player it is very difficult.”

Wright-Phillips has had two stints at Man City with and unsuccessful spell at Chelsea sandwiched in between. He has made 250 appearances for the club in total, and hopes to make many more in the years to come. It remains to be seen whether his wish is realised or if he proves to be excess baggage and is offloaded before August. Stay tuned for more in this regard.
