CARDIFF, WALES – AUGUST 25: Cardiff City player Fraizer Campbell (10) heads in the third Cardiff goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Cardiff City and Manchester City at Cardiff City Stadium

Manchester City were stunned by new boys Cardiff City as they lost 3-2 to the newly-promoted Welsh team, while Tottenham Hotspur edged out Swansea by a solitary goal at White Hart Lane in week 2 of the English Premier League.

Cardiff City – Manchester City (3-2)

Cardiff City took the much-fancied Manchester City team by surprise at Cardiff City stadium as they played some positive, attacking football in the first half and forced Joe Hart to make a couple of smart saves. City, on the other hand, were unable to find their tempo and could not find the back of the net despite some slick build-up play. The Cardiff City defence impressively held its own against a far superior City attack and gave them little space to play.

However, Manchester City came back stronger in the second half and there was more incisiveness to their attack from the moment the second half began. They were soon rewarded in the 52nd minute as Edin Dzeko scored a 25-yard screamer after Sergio Aguero played a clever backheel onto the path of the Serbian.

But Cardiff refused to give in and were rewarded for their persistence in the 59th minute as Aron Gunnarson bundled in a goal from close range after Joe Hart was unable to stop the ball from entering the net.

Manchester City continued to attack as Cardiff continued to play inside their own half. But it was Cardiff City that took the lead as Fraizer Campbell scored a thumping header off a Peter Whittingham in the 79th minute much to the shock of the City faithful.

It got only worse for Manchester City as Campbell once again scored off yet another Whittingham corner in the 86th minute as the scoreline read 3-1.

However, Cardiff had to face some nervous moments towards the end of the game as Alvaro Negredo scored in the 92nd minute and Manchester City continued to attack the Cardiff goal.

But in the end, Cardiff held on for a famous 3-2 victory in a match that will be remembered by their fans for a long time to come.

Tottenham Hotspur – Swansea (1-0)

Swansea played Tottenham at home and Andre Villas-Boas’s team looked threatening from the first minute of the game and could have scored at least a couple of goals had it not been for Swansea keeper Micheal Vorm’s brilliant saves that kept Spurs at bay. Kyle Walker and new signing Paulinho were especially impressive for Tottenham, while Swansea seemed listless for large parts of the first half barring a couple of decent chances.

Tottenham continued their domination in the second half and were awarded a 58th-minute penalty as Jonjo Shelvey brought down Andros Townsend in the box. Roberto Soldado coolly slotted in the penalty to give Spurs the lead.

Swansea brought in Wilfried Bony in an attempt to equalise, but were unable to score the decisive goal as Tottenham held on for a 1-0 victory.
