Bastian Schweinsteiger is a transfer target for Ronald Koeman at Everton according to the Daily Star. The German International has been frozen out of the Manchester United squad by Jose Mourinho and is free to leave the club.
Everton are undecided if they would take Bastian Schweinsteiger on a permanent deal or on a loan deal in January but their interest in the midfielder is confirmed by the English publication. Koeman has been looking for an experienced midfielder for his side and has now set his sight on getting the former Bayern Munich player.
Koeman is looking to strengthen the midfield as his first choice midfielder, James McCarthy is out injured and Gareth Barry, who’s 35-years-old, is nearing retirement. Schweinsteiger is 32 and has a lot of experience under his belt and that will not only help Everton as a whole but also help players like Ross Barkley and Bryan Oviedo become better players.

Schweinsteiger was training on his own since the start of the season as Jose Mourinho did not want him in his squad. The player was asked to find himself a club to move to but the midfielder could not find a suitable club and he remains at Manchester United.
Eyebrows were raised when Jose Mourinho finally recalled Schweinsteiger for first team training early last week but, the rumours of him making it back into the first team were squashed when the manager revealed that he only called him up to ‘make up the numbers’ in the training.
“It's a decision based on the fact that we are in a period of the season where it's really difficult to train with everyone together. At the moment, the day after we've played, the players train in a separate group – they do a specific recovery session. The group, instead of being 23 or 24, becomes 13 or 14, and then, with injuries, maybe 10 or 11.” said the Jose Mourinho.
The German currently earns nearly £200,000 at Old Trafford and the wages might be something that the Merseyside club might not be able to afford. Koeman might opt to take the midfielder on loan in January and then try and get him to sign on a permanent deal in the summer if he’s ready to cut down his wages.
MLS clubs and Chinese Super League sides are also interested in signing Schweinsteiger while Bayern Munich have left the door open for the club legend to return to the Bundesliga champions if he wants to.
