Desperate times call for desperate measures

Manchester United are going through a very tough time and Jose Mourinho is restless at the moment. The former Chelsea manager is said to have ‘lost his patience’ with the squad he has at Old Trafford and is ready to make a reshuffle.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to axe eight Manchester United players by the end of this season. The Telegraph are reporting that the manager does not want to have players that are not willing to give it their all for the club and has set his mind on letting them go.

Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian, Phil Jones, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick, Memphis Depay and Ashley Young are the players labelled as 'surplus to requirements' at Manchester United by Telegraph. The English publication believes that these players would be sold in January or at least by next summer.

Mourinho had already made it clear to Schweinsteiger that he was not part of his plans at Manchester United and that he was free to leave. The German did not manage to find a suitable move and is still at the club. After being frozen out of the squad, and also not being allowed to play for the Under 23's, the former Bayern Munich midfielder and World Cup winner was finally recalled to first-team training by Mourinho earlier this week.

His hopes of making a comeback into the first-team were short lived as Jose Mourinho confirmed that he had only called him back to 'make up the numbers' in training. “It's a decision based on the fact that we are in a period of the season where it's really difficult to train with everyone together. At the moment, the day after we've played, the players train in a separate group – they do a specific recovery session. The group, instead of being 23 or 24, becomes 13 or 14, and then, with injuries, maybe 10 or 11,” said the Red Devils manager.

Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay also face a similar situation but the two have been with the first-team squad, unlike Schweinsteiger. The duo who were signed up by Louis van Gaal have been unable to fit into Jose Mourinho’s plans and have hardly been able to play for the Red Devils this season.

Marcos Rojo and Morgan Schneiderlin have been poor under Jose Mourinho whenever they got the chance and the former Real Madrid manager has put them up for sale as well. Schneiderlin was linked with a move to Everton and former club, Southampton in the summer but he remains at Manchester United.

Michael Carrick’s contract at Old Trafford is over when the season comes to end and Mourinho is not keen on giving him an extension. Unlike Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he does not have an option of extending it for a further year and thus will be leaving the club soon.

Ashley Young and Phil Jones are injured most of the time and Mourinho wants them out of the club as well. The duo were signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer of 2011 and were a part of the title winning squad in the 2012/13 season. But with their injuries being so frequent, Mourinho and the fans have lost patience with them and they are set to be booted out soon.
