The midweek fixtures produced positive results for most top sides except the Gunners who lost to Everton in a thrilling match at Goodison park. Arsenal, after going a goal up were truly hassled by the Everton side who dominated them physically and ultimately won the game after Ashley Williams scored a header in the 86th minute.

The other Merseyside club, Liverpool, also had a good outing with an inspiring performance by Adam Lallana who scored twice and set one as well. Manchester clubs, City and United, won their fixtures as they beat Watford and Crystal Palace respectively.

However, the true winners of the gameweek were Chelsea who won their 10th successive game on the trot and are now 6 points clear off the top of the table.

Gameweek 17 promises to be a thrilling affair with the Merseyside Derby and a crunch game between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. To maximise our FPL gains from the weekend fixtures here’s a look at 5 players we believe could do well this coming gameweek:

#1 Christian Eriksen

Eriksen against Hull City was one of the best performers of the gameweek. The Danish player scored a massive 19 points on his own as he scored twice and assisted another to get the Lily Whites a 3-0 victory against Hull City.

Eriksen has suddenly come up in stunning form with 5 goals in his last three games along with a couple of assists. At a decent price of £8.3m, Eriksen is also a great choice if you are looking at a goalscoring threat from Spurs other than Kane.

With performances like these, his price is bound to skyrocket and it would be best to get him early on. This week Tottenham face Burnley at the White Hart Lane where they’ve scored a staggering 14 goals in the last 5 games. If Spurs keep up their form, we could expect another good performance by the Dane.

#2 Marcos Alonso

Chelsea’s Alonso, despite performances which have earned him 67 points in a total of 10 starts, continues to be not so popular amongst the FPL managers. Despite being one of the highest points givers from the defender class, he has a pick percentage as low as 8.1%.

Alonso could prove to be a worthy differential for your team due to his premium price which is deterring people from getting the defender.

The wingback has impressed us all by adapting to the league comfortably and he has put in a good shift as a wingback. His forward runs are especially dangerous and the player has the ability to provide the odd assist as well.

Chelsea have been impeccable away from home as well and there is no reason they should not continue this against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The Blues will hope to win their 11th consecutive game and get all three points away from home.

Next 3 fixtures: Crystal Palace(A), Bournemouth(H), Stoke City(H)

#3 Dimitri Payet

The skilful Frenchman is the second midfielder on the list. Payet has continued to impress this season despite the failings of West Ham as a club. With two assists and one goal in his last four league games, the stats may not be extremely favourable in Payet’s favour but one should not undermine his quality.

His skillset is such that he would be an asset to any team. With some crazy set piece skills, Payet is always a threat from free kicks.

The player should make the most out of West Ham’s fixture against Hull City, who have been quite easily one of the most defensively weak team. West Ham will hope that their best player shines so as to get the crucial 3 points, as the London-based club sit a lowly 15th on the points table.

Next 3 fixtures: Hull City(H), Swansea City (A), Leicester City (A)

#4 Fraser Forster

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has kept four clean-sheets in the last five matches, with some great performances except a massive blunder against Crystal Palace where the Saints collapsed and lost 3-0. For a goalkeeper priced at £5.1m, Forster is not too expensive and has been providing excellent returns for the price.

He is well protected by a solid Southampton backline led by the stalwart Virgin van Dijk. Under Claude Puel, the Southampton team have been in general, defensively sound and the players seem like good options considering their FPL returns.

Saints play their next fixture against Bournemouth away from home. Claude Puel will have to ensure that the defence puts in their best shift if they want to come back with points away from home.

Next 3 fixtures: Bournemouth(A), Spurs(H), West Brom(H)

#5 Harry Kane

The forward's performance against Hull City left a lot of managers disappointed as the player could not get on the scoresheet and did not make any difference on a statistical level. However, this does not raise a question on Kane’s ability as a player and managers should continue to stick with him.

His price has already shot to a high of £11.3m after coming back from injury at a price of £10.8m. Spurs play their next game against Burnley at home. At White Hart Lane, the London club has a solid record as they’ve scored 14 goals in their last 5 home games.
