Fantasy Premier League: Top 7 midfielders for September

Watford FC v Brighton & Hove Albion - Premier League
Pereyra has been a great budget option at the start of the season

Midfielders in the FPL have started stronger than the strikers in terms of points return. This is in keeping up with last year when the top points scoring charts were filled with midfield options.

Having led to a lot of midfield heavy teams, the choices available to Fantasy managers too are plenty. August offered many such options, both budget and premium.

The compilation is based on the upcoming fixtures, the form of the players and their team while also their ability to start each game.

Honorary mention: Roberto Pereyra who has been great but unfortunately goes into a tough run of fixtures.

Here are the best available midfield options for September

Mohamed Salah (£13) - Liverpool

Liverpool FC v West Ham United - Premier League
How do you keep Salah out?

Had to start off with the Liverpool's star man. Mohamed Salah is a must have irrespective of the fixture list and the difficulty of the opponent. He has started the season in prime fashion and looks to have another tremendous season in the Reds shirt.

The only reason why managers must not have the Egyptian is his high price tag. Otherwise, there is no real reason to keep him out of your team.

Liverpool does have a difficult run of fixtures coming up in September though. They play Leicester, Spurs and Chelsea away while in between there is a game against Southampton at home.

Salah will give a decent amount of points irrespective of the games and a top midfielders list just couldn't be completed without including his name.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.1) - Arsenal

Arsenal v Chelsea - International Champions Cup 2018
Mkhitaryan is the one to watch from Arsenal

Having got their first victory of the season after a couple of tough opening fixtures, Arsenal would look to continue their momentum as they head into much easier opponents in September.

Mkhitaryan is priced at a mid-range in midfield and provides good value for money when you take into account his attacking threat. Having started on the right of the front three in his opening games, he has also drifted inward to play behind the striker at times. This gives him a good chance at registering goals as we saw in the match against Chelsea.

Arsenal play Cardiff and Newcastle away as their next two, before hosting Everton and Watford at home. All four are winnable fixtures and promise a lot of goals.

Mkhitaryan is one of the cheapest forays into Arsenal's unsettled attack. He is one of the few who is guaranteed to start and looks to be a really important player for Arsenal this coming season.

Lucas Moura (£7.1) - Tottenham

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Moura has had a tremendous start to the season

The Brazilian forward has sprung to life in the opening matches of this season. Having scored a brace against Man United and also getting one against Fulham, he has surprisingly become the highest points scorer at Spurs beating the likes of Harry Kane and Kieran Trippier.

That might not be the case for too long but if Moura continues anywhere near his current form he will become an invaluable Fantasy asset coming at such a budget price.

He has so far started as a strike partner to Harry Kane and while also drifting wide at times. This new role has increased his chances of getting attacking returns by a huge margin. His pace on the ball has also made him a threat on counter attacks.

Tottenham have a balanced run of fixtures coming up in September and you would expect Moura to continue getting a first team run in the absence of alternatives. It is up to him to now continue with his goal scoring exploits.

Theo Walcott (£6.7) - Everton

AFC Bournemouth v Everton FC - Premier League
Can Walcott fill in for Richarlison?

Marco Silva is an attack-minded manager and Everton under him have started with a lot of goals. Granted they give away many at the back too but if you want to benefit from their attacking stats, going with someone like Walcott right now is the best option.

Walcott has scored 2 in his last 2 games and has also provided one assist. This has taken his tally of points to 22 in three games which is very impressive.

In the absence of Richarlison, the onus will be on Theo to get the goals and break down opposition defences with his pace. Everton's matches in September too offer a lot of optimism as they play Huddersfield(H), West Ham (H), Arsenal(A) and Fulham(H). All of whom have had a leaky defence at the start of the campaign.

Ryan Fraser (£5.6) - Afc Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth v Cardiff City - Premier League
Fraser is one of the top bargains in midfield

If you're looking for a cheap option to accommodate other big hitters, there is currently no better option in the game than the Cherries' midfielder. Fraser has been one of the highest points scorers in the opening weeks and has been one of the key reasons why his side is still unbeaten.

Usually playing at the right wing, Fraser has the quality necessary for delivering good crosses which promises a lot of assists. He also has the ability to cut inside at times for a goal as we saw in the first GW.

To get attacking returns at such price is a considerable advantage in the fantasy game. The only thing against him are the tricky run of fixtures which Bournemouth face this month. They play Chelsea and Burnley away and Leicester & Crystal Palace at home.

But looking at how impressive Bournemouth have been in their opening matches, you'd expect them and Ryan Fraser to get some good points in the coming month.

David Silva (£8.5) - Manchester City

Manchester City v Huddersfield Town - Premier League
Silva is tasked to make City tick in the absence of De Bruyne

City's midfield is a tough one to choose from. Players haven't been regular in the starting lineup, the ones who have been haven't provided consistent returns. The coming month should be a good indicator as to which player will be key for them and how the team will settle in.

Our pick is the evergreen Spanish maestro David Silva. He has in the absence of De Bruyne, taken the reigns in midfield and is the one responsible for their creative exploits.

He is perhaps the safest choice to start game-in-game-out apart from perhaps Fernandinho. Also, his positioning in the side gives him a lot of attacking opportunities. With City's possession play, Silva is many a time seen playing inside the box and his keen eye for goal might give his Fantasy owners a lot of points.

Eden Hazard (£10.6) - Chelsea

Newcastle United v Chelsea FC - Premier League
Hazard to prosper under Sarri?

The Belgian winger looks to be staying put at Stamford Bridge which is good news for Fantasy managers as he looks really good this season. Having played only 133 minutes, Hazard still has scored once and provided 2 assists.

As he becomes a regular starter in Sarri's new system, Hazard will be crucial to Chelsea's hunt for goals. The club has won all three of their opening games and go further into a balanced run of fixtures playing Bournemouth(H), Cardiff(H), West Ham(A) and Liverpool(H).

Hazard is currently only selected by 15% of the FPL populace. If he gets good attacking returns that he is well capable of, these managers might be at an advantage before the rest of the game catches up to his FPL potential. Now might be the best time and price to buy the Belgian.
