The Portuguese living legend was almost always a point or two behind the Argentine in recent games but given his victories in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA European Championships, it wasn't the biggest of surprises that he overtook Barcelona's jewel.
Ronaldo is rated at 94 – one point above Lionel Messi whose club teammate Neymar also joined the 90+ club this time with a rating of 92. 31-year-old Ronaldo becomes the oldest currently active footballer to be the highest rated player in the game and deserves said feat given his contribution to the sport and the millions who adore him.
