AC Milan defender Daniel Bonera has been ruled out for about three months after he injured his knee in Milan’s 2-1 friendly win over Valencia on Saturday at the Guinness International Champions Cup. Bonera was diagnosed after the match with a compound fracture of the patella in his right knee.

There was some more bad news on the injury front for the Rossoneri as Brazilian forward Robinho also picked up an injury, reported to be an adductor problem. The club released a statement which shed information on the nature of the injuries to its two players:

“After initial investigations carried out and after consultation with Professor Herbert Schonhuber, we opted for conservative treatment with a prognosis of a return (for Bonera) between 70 and 90 days, barring complications.”

“Robinho suffers from an adductor muscle problem in his left thigh. In two weeks he will undergo further medical examinations to determine the extent of the injury.”

Milan will next play either Chelsea or Inter Milan in the next round of the Guinness Cup.
