Former Juventus goalkeeper Stefano Tacconi feels that Buffon should have been much more aggressive and smashed Lewandowski’s face in before the Bayern Munich striker had the chance to spark a Champions League comeback on Wednesday.
Goals from Paul Pogba and Juan Cuadrado in the first half gave Juventus a 2-0 lead but Bayern fought back to score through Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, the latter scoring in the 90th minute. The Germans then scored twice during the second half of extra-time through Thiago Alcantara and Kingsley Coman to clinch the tie.
The game turned thanks to Lewandowski’s header and Tacconi was not impressed with Buffon’s goalkeeping:
"Buffon should have come out earlier on Lewandowski, smashed his face in and ensure he didn't get the chance to finish." Tacconi told Radio Kiss Kiss.
"I would have smashed everything from his cheekbones to his knees, but goalkeepers aren't like they used to be in my day. It's all different now - we used to come sprinting out."
Buffon is hailed as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time but Tacconi was clearly not impressed with his countryman. He however was effusive in his praise for young goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
"Gianluigi Donnarumma [has the brightest future], without a doubt," he said. "For all he's doing at Milan, he deserves a place at Euro 2016. I'd let him be the third choice goalkeeper and breathe in the atmosphere of a major tournament.”
Buffon sets record for longest run without conceding a goal
Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon set a record for the longest run without conceding a goal as the Serie A leaders won 4-1 at neighbours Torino on Sunday.
Allegri hailed the Italian’s goalkeeper calling him extraordinary.
"He deserved the record, he is an extraordinary goalkeeper and an extraordinary lad," Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri said of Buffon.
Asked about Torino's disallowed goal, he added: "I didn't talk about the referee when we suffered in the Champions League and I won't do so now."
Juventus, knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday after squandering a two-goal lead, moved on to 70 points after the 19th win in their last 20 league games, with Napoli on 67.
