What's the news?

Former Real Madrid boss Vicente Del Bosque has given his verdict on the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo (via Goal), Del Bosque said that he believes Messi is a more complete player than Ronaldo.

In case you didn't know...

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated world football in the last decade, and deciding the best among them is one of the most hotly debated discussions in football.

Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Juventus last summer and is has been in brilliant form since then. He is currently the leading goalscorer (19 goals) in the Serie A, and has helped Juventus maintain a healthy lead at the top of the table.

On the other hand, Messi is at his usual best for Barcelona this season and is currently at the top in the LaLiga goalscoring charts. The Argentine is also leading the race for the European Golden Shoe and will be looking forward to winning the accolade for the third consecutive time this campaign.

Meanwhile, Del Bosque served as the Real Madrid's permanent manager between 1999-2003 and won two LaLiga titles along with two Champions League trophies with the Los Blancos.

The heart of the matter

Del Bosque has also got caught up in the worldwide debate, and he has minced no words in giving his verdict.

"There are players who never do it wrong. He has an impressive regularity. He is a great player," Del Bosque said about Messi.

"I'm staying with Messi. I see a more natural soccer player, from his time in the neighborhood, playing with friends on the street. Even so, Cristiano has extraordinary courage, with physical and technical conditions as a great scorer, but I'm staying with Messi."

Del Bosque also believes that Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are capable of filling the void left by Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

"He [Ronaldo] is a player who guarantees many goals and now it is harder for Madrid to score them," he said.

"Even so, there are other very good players, like Bale, who is a special boy with great conditioning, or Benzema, which has been badly spoken about but has fantastic qualities."

What's next?

Messi's Barcelona will play Real Madrid at the Bernabeu for the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals next. On the other hand, Ronaldo's Juventus are scheduled to play against Napoli on March 4.
