Andy Cole - A big part of Newcastle United's early season success

Kevin Keegan's exciting Newcastle United team began the 1994/95 season in style, completing six consecutive victories racking up an impressive 22 goals with star striker Andy Cole netting six of them.

Who ended the run?

Liverpool. The Reds earned a 1-1 draw at St. James's Park with Ian Rush scoring a 70th-minute equaliser cancelling out Rob Lee's opener. However, Newcastle still remained a force in the title race and did not lose a match until the end of October, when Manchester United defeated them 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Where did they finish?

Despite their incredible start, Newcastle's season tailed off badly and they only managed to finish sixth.

Part of the reason was the inexplicable mid-season sale of Cole in January to United, which saw United miss out on the League title by a single point whereas Newcastle only won nine of their 20 League fixtures following Cole's sale to finish 17 points off 1st and miss out on Europe by one point.
