We have seen some absolute stunners in the premier league season. From great volleys, to bamboozling solo runs. It’s literally impossible to choose one single goal of the season, so here, I will discuss the top ten goals of the premier in my opinion. You can then comment vote for the one you found the best.
Check Tiote vs ArsenalThis was one of the best Volleys this season, in a game that finished 4-4. Highlighted the amount of quality and power that Tiote has in the left foot of his, and secured one point for Newcastle, who were 4-0 down at one point of time in the match. The fact that it came against a team like Arsenal, further enhances the quality of Tiote’s strike, as he had the young (yet quite adept) Szczesny scrambling, and diving in vain for the goal. Well taken.
Gareth Bale vs StokeThe best sideways volley this season? Power, Technique, and Finesse. This strike had everything. An awkward ball floated in by Lennon was met by bale, waist high, and arrowed into the net, securing a 2-1 Tottenham victory away at Stoke City. Many have criticized Bale for not having the quality to be the player of the season (even though it’s not his fault he was awarded the trophy) but few can argue that he has a bright future. Proof of that, in the goal.
Luke Varney vs WolvesAnother great volley shot into this list last November, when Luke Varney fired Blackpool into the lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers with a beautifully taken volley. When the ball was pinged down the left of the Wolves’ half, no one expected Varney to produce such a sweet strike, leaving Hanheman stranded. All under the eyes of the crown prince. What a royal occasion for the Blackpool man.View the goal here: http://en.soccerclips.net/videos/blackpool-1-0-wolves-varney
Dimitar Berbatov vs LiverpoolThe Bulgarian had started the season with the Midas touch, as whatever he was touching would somehow turn a golden tint. He had grabbed a hat-trick in the game in which he got this goal, and even scored five against Blackburn. Yet, this goal(his second in the match) has to be one of the best he has ever scored. When the ball was floated in by Nani from the right, the pacific striker controlled it on his knee with his first touch and lobbed Reina into the net with his second. Absolute class.
Berbatov Sensational Goal against Liverpool.mp4-1 by ligomilitos
Samir Nasri vs FulhamThis had to be one of the best games the Frenchman had played in a long-long time. He was in proverbial “legendary-mode” as he scored two unbelievably great goals, in one single match. Though both were oozing with quality and finesse, his second goal gets the nod here because of not only does he best three outfield players and the keeper here, he also finishes from a very difficult angle. This was his breakthrough season, and this goal sums up his performances.
Raul Meireles vs WolvesThe first half of Liverpool’s season under Roy Hodgson was complete shambles. From self proclaimed title contenders, they slumped to a Mid-table doldrum. Yet, one player shined through all of it (while many around him flopped) and his name was Raul Meireles. His first season in England has been a fantastic one, and this volley sums up the bucketloads of quality that he possesses. One wrod to describe this goal? Wham!
Johan Elmander vs WolvesThis was close control at it’s finest. When Elmander received the ball in the Wolves penalty area, under vigilance of three Wolves defenders, very few expected the ball to nestle into the net after a few seconds. What happened afterwards was pure footballing sorcery. Elmander bamboozled his way past four defenders with excellent footwork and followed it up by a calm finish past Hanheman. Brilliant.View the goal here:
Wayne Rooney vs Manchester CityThis was more than a goal. This was a breath of fresh air, a potion of revival, a moment of magic from a striker who had lost his way to goal at the start of the season. One of the best Overhead kicks scored in a long time, because of the fact that Rooney had to change directions due to a deflection. After the goal, even Man City players appear to be shellshocked; as the forlorn Wayne was forgotten, and the beast of past seasons returned. Such was the excellence of the strike.
David Silva vs BlackpoolDavid Silva has been a great signing for Manchester City and how he has proved it! He has been instrumental in City’s success this season, and has already taken heroic status among the City faithfuls. This goal was a testimony to his class as he faked inside two Blackpool defenders, while carving a delightful curling shot into the net, giving the keeper absolutely no chance of saving. Graceful and elegant, yet effective. That’s David Silva for you.View the goal here: http://www.soccerclips.net/videos/blackpool-1-3-man-city-silva
Nedum Onuoha vs ChelseaThis came at a time when Chelsea were on a rampage. They were juggernauts crushing down any team that got in their way. Their loss to Sunderland was as unexpected as the right back scoring, but he did, and how! Receiving the ball after a faulty clearance, he danced past three Chelsea defenders with Maradona-like feet and finished with the cheekiest of finishes past Petr Cech. The first time a visiting player scored at Stamford Bridge this season. And what a goal.
