Highlights: 10-man Chelsea forced to settle for 1-1 draw with Burnley

Referee Martin Atkinson shows the red card to Nemanja Matic of Chelsea

English Premier League leaders Chelsea dropped two points at Stamford Bridge against relegation-battlers Burnley, on a night when the Blues had two penalty appeals turned down and Nemanja Matic sent off for reacting to a Ashley Barnes tackle, which itself escaped a merited booking.

Chelsea started the match on the offensive, and in the 14th minute Eden Hazard weaved his way into the penalty box from the right and passed to Branislav Ivanovic, who fired home from close range. Chelsea had several attempts to kill the game off, but were made to pay by 19th placed Burnley in the second half.

The biggest talking point from the surprise result was Nemanja Matic flying into a rage after Ashley Barnes crashed into his shins, and receiving a red card for it. Ben Mee headed in a late corner to claim a draw for the visitors.

On being asked whether the Matic sending-off changed the course of the match, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said, “There were four moments which changed the match. Minutes 30, 33, 43 and 69 were crucial, but I refuse to describe them. I don’t describe.”

New signing Juan Cuadrado started the match, and was replaced by Willian in the second half.

Chelsea 1-0 Burnley: Ivanovic (14’)

Chelsea 1-1 Burnley: Mee (81’)
