Swansea defeated Swedish side Malmo 4-0 with goals from Michu, new arrival Wilfried Bony (two) and Alejandro Pozuelo to complete register a resounding first leg win in the third qualifying round of Europa League.

Swansea have returned to European football after 22 years.

Michu started the rout with a typically composed finish in the 37th minute, as he took advantage of a defensive error to slot the ball home.

Bony, a record signing for Swansea from Vitesse Arnhem, then got into the act with a glancing header in the 55th-minute from a Wayne Routledge cross. He scored his second five minutes later after Michu hit the bar with Bony was netting in the rebound.

Swansea added fourth when Pozuelo volleyed past the Malmo goalkeeper.

Michael Laudrup was delighted to see his Swansea side take a major advantage heading into the second leg of the Europa League qualifiers with an easy win over Malmo.

“I am very pleased. Perfection does not exist in football, but it is very difficult not to be satisfied,” Laudrup said.

“Four goals and none conceded against an opponent who were match fit. There were also two goals for a new striker and we know goals are so important for players up front. Pozuelo also scored in his first game, Michu is back scoring, and we had no injuries, so it is difficult not to be pleased.”

“Michu and Bony have only played together in the Reading friendly,” he said. “But we had other new players: Jordi in the back, Jonjo in midfield plus Pozuelo and Cañas. If we win 4-0 and the players don’t know each other that well then it’s not bad.”
