Inter Milan return not impossible for Eto'o

People hoping for the return of fan favorite Samuel Eto’o to Inter Milan have been told to ‘wait and see’ by club president Massimo Moratti.

The 32-year old was in Lombardy at the weekend and, with less than a week to go for the close of the transfer window, Moratti said that a return for the player who helped the club win the treble in 2010 could be on the cards.

“Let’s just see what happens in these coming days,” Sky Sports Italia quoted him as saying when he was asked if he knew about the players presence in the city.

Chelsea have also expressed interest in the striker who has worked with Jose Mourinho during his time at Inter.

A move to the Premier League is seen as a higher possibility for a player whose services are no longer required at Anzhi, although he owns a home in Milan and has a strong emotional connection with the fans over there.

“I’m hearing from you that he’s in Milan, but it doesn’t surprise me,” Inter’s director of sport, Piero Ausilio, was quoted as saying. “It’s true that he’s in Milan, but I think it’s only logical since he has his family here.

“His wife and children live in Milan, and it’s not the first time he has returned here. All I can say is that there is a very strong emotional bond between Eto’o and our fans, who respect him as a person and as a footballer.

“He’s still a great footballer, but to say there is a chance of him returning to play for Inter? Honestly, there are many factors that come into the equation and I imagine you know what they are. I think it would be difficult, but I won’t exclude anything.”

The player’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, had told Il Giornale that the player would willingly return to Inter and that a move to London would be unlikely.

“I spoke to Jose, who was willing to give Samuel a one-year contract, but Chelsea are waiting for Wayne Rooney,” Vigorelli said. “Mourinho only has him in mind and is waiting for the situation with Manchester United to find a breakthrough.”
