Is it time for Chelsea fans to think of the unthinkable?

Chelsea players being greeted by the fans after winning the FA cup

After my rant at the performance last night and the way certain people played, we will now finish outside the top four for the first time in a decade and we now have to think the unthinkable.

The two defeats to Newcastle and Liverpool have hurt us with dropped points at Arsenal and Fulham. Forget the Cup runs, our league form hasn’t been good and if we don’t win in Munich, Chelsea will pay the ultimate price.

So we head into the final game against already relegated Blackburn knowing that we can do no more than finish sixth this season. Is it now a nothing game or a final chance for people in our squad to show Robbie and the supporters what they can do with Munich the following Saturday coming up?.

No matter what happens on Sunday, it’s what happens the week after in Germany that will have a monumental effect on Chelsea.

If we win, we all know what it would mean to all of us, the club, the players and everybody connected with the club.

If we lose, well.. it’s something we have to face up to.

If we lose in Germany, we will look back at our season and with a sixth place finish and the FA CUP, would it have been enough for anyone let alone our Interim boss RDM?.

If we lose in Germany, what will the financial implications be for Chelsea next season? OK, we would have made more than enough money from our Champions League run this season to cover what the Premier League would have given us for a top four finish but that’s not the point.

It’s not going to be easy to sign players if we are unable to offer them Champions League football, but Europa League football instead. If we are up against the likes of Madrid and City in the hunt for a player such as Hazard, do you think he would come to us then?

Maybe on the flip side, it’s another kick up the backside for the club. Maybe it would speed up the process of regenerating the squad and getting rid of the dead wood and seeing the likes of Romeu, Lukaku and Piazon involved?.

One thing is for sure, this Sunday at the Bridge, it will be a very weird atmosphere. On one hand we will celebrate our FA Cup win and the fact that we have Germany to look forward to, but in the back of our minds we know that sixth place isn’t good enough.

From the moment the final whistle blows against Blackburn, the focus will turn to Munich and it’s going to be a long, long week.

We have every chance of winning the game just as much as Bayern does. We have the big players who continue to perform in the big games and in having that second chance they have craved since Moscow, WILL get out there and give their all to win the competition for the first time. If they do our worries will be over.

The thing is, we know especially this season, it could also go the other way and it is unthinkable but, it’s something we have to start thinking about.

In Munich it really is all or nothing!.

KTBFFH!
