What's the story?

There is a reason why Sunil Chhetri is widely considered the best player to ever come out of an Indian football team. The Delhi striker has time and again proved his worth for every team he has played for, including the national team, where he owns the record for the highest goal scorer in the country's history.

Chhetri has been the catalyst in front of goal for practically every side and it seems as though Bengaluru FC could depend on the striker to come up with the goods again this season in the ISL. His late goal against Mumbai City FC proved just how important he is but it is after the goal was scored that Chhetri's true touch of class was witnessed.

The forward refused to celebrate his goal as it was scored against former side Mumbai City FC for whom he has played in the ISL plenty of times. The gesture was well and truly world-class.

In case you didn't know...

Chhetri decided to play with Bengaluru FC as they make their bow in the ISL despite having an offer from Mumbai City FC, who were already a part of the competition.

The heart of the matter

Chhetri showed yet again why he is one of India's most beloved football stars, showing kids the real way of playing the game as well as never taking your former team for granted.

The Indian striker has time and again expressed his gratitude towards Mumbai for making him a better player and his gesture today showed just how much the club means to him.

What's next?

Bengaluru FC's victory takes them to the top of the ISL on goal difference following Goa's 3-2 win over Chennaiyin FC earlier today.

Author's take

If you weren't already aware of Chhetri's commitment to the cause, his actions today proved just what an absolute gentleman the Bengaluru FC player really is.
