Weaving his creative wand, Mikel Oyarzabal was the driving force behind Spain's epic victory.

If it weren't for Ferran Torres' goalscoring heroics, then the man of the match award would've surely gone to Spain's Mikel Oyarzabal. He was La Roja's playmaking wizard on the night against Italy.

A livewire down the left flank, the Real Sociedad star caused Italy plenty of problems. Oyarzabal's movements were stealthy and he constantly looked to link up play with his teammates.

Spain's best chances stemmed through him and he set up both of their goals on the night with prescient crosses that found Torres inside the box.

With 94% passes completed and four key passes laid, Oyarzabal was elegant and oozed class with every touch on the ball. It was a stupendous performance from the talented Spaniard.

Flop: Lorenzo Insigne (Italy)

Lorenzo Insigne missed an absolute sitter in the game against Spain.
Lorenzo Insigne missed an absolute sitter in the game against Spain.

Lorenzo Insigne, for all his goalscoring potential, has never been able to replicate his club heroics on the international stage. In fact, he's scored only 10 times in 49 games for the Azzurri.

Tonight, starting on the left flank of Italy's three-pronged attack, the Napoli ace was given another chance to prove his worth. But Insigne ended up wasting it.

The 30-year-old spurned a glorious chance to equalize in the opening stanza by firing his effort wide off target on the right. Insigne had the goal gaping in front of him and only Unai Simon to beat but lacked the composure to make the right contact with the ball.

He never really recovered from the miss, cutting a desolate figure in the sub-par Italian attack. La Roja had little trouble dealing with Insigne on the night.

Hit: Unai Simon (Spain)

Unai Simon delivered a goalkeeping masterclass for Spain against Italy.
Unai Simon delivered a goalkeeping masterclass for Spain against Italy.

In a clash of two shotstopping greats, Spain's Unai Simon eclipsed his more fancied Italian counterpart Gianluigi Donnarumma. Simon had a stormer in goal, making some vital saves to keep his side in the match until the very end and eventually sealing the win.

The 24-year-old Athletic Bilbao custodian was particularly busy in the first-half, which was open until Bonucci's red card. But Simon never succumbed to Italy's pressure and made some fantastic saves.

Simon read the game excellently to come off his line in moments of danger and produced strong hands when faced with a shot. He most notably denied Federico Bernardeschi from close range during the opening exchanges with a fantastic block.

With excellent distribution skills to go alongside his goalkeeping nous, the Spaniard delivered a complete performance. At this rate, Simon could be relied upon in goal for years to come.
