Jose Mourinho jokes about taking over at Manchester United

Rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United had surfaced since he lost his job at Chelsea

Speaking to the media during the FIFA Legends vs Mexican All-Stars match in Mexico, Jose Mourinho joked about his future with Manchester United. When asked about his prospects about going to Manchester United next year, he said that he was just looking forward to going back to his hotel and enjoy the night. He also added that he was looking for a new job and might end up without one if he lost the game today. Mourinho was managing the FIFA Legends side which lost the match with an 8-9 score line.

“No, no, I’m looking to go to the hotel, have a nice dinner and enjoy the night with my guys. I’m looking for a new job, I lose the game here today, and probably I’ll have no club,” he joked.

Rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United had surfaced since he lost his job at Chelsea. As Louis van Gaal's time as Manchester United manager could come to an end on 21 May when the Red Devils take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley, he was widely seen as the prospective candidate to fit in at the Manchester club.

The Portuguese strategist had openly expressed his desire to return to management in the summer and also put forward that his preferred choice would be to continue in England. It was even speculated that he had agreed on a £60m deal to become highest paid manager at Manchester United.

Recent reports from Spain had suggested that Mourinho had rejected the deal from Manchester United to sign a five-year deal with Valencia. The former Chelsea manager is reported to be close to Valencia’s owner Peter Lim and a move to the Spanish club might just be the kind of trial that the 53-year-old needs to get the best out of himself.

According to reports from Punto Pelota, Mourinho was almost done signing with Peter Lim for five seasons in a £36 million deal.

"The coach rests these days in Ibiza, while his representative Jorge Mendes closed yesterday in Valencia the fringes of signing with Peter Lim - £36million for five seasons," Juan Gato, a journalist with Punto Pelota, had said earlier.

Jose Mourinho himself had confirmed that he will be returning to management in July and had earlier said that there had been no clear contact from Manchester United.
