Kylian Mbappe breaks another Ligue 1 scoring record with half-century of goals for Monaco and PSG

What's the story?

Paris St. Germain sensation Kylian Mbappe has added another feather to his cap by becoming the youngest player ever in the history of Ligue 1 to reach the 50-goal mark, breaking a 37-year old record in the process.

Mbappe scored another brace against Nimes as PSG beat the visitors 3-0, in their recent Ligue 1 fixture. The Frenchman now sits atop the league's scoring charts with 22 goals and has Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi in his sights as he aims for the European Golden Shoe.

In case you didn't know...

Mbappe, who won the FIFA World Cup in Russia last year with France, became just the second teenager in the history of the sport to score in the final of the tournament which his team won 4-2 against Croatia. A feat that was last achieved by the legendary Pele in 1958.

He has broken numerous records in the Ligue 1 as well as the UEFA Champions League and was already the youngest goalscorer in the histories of Monaco and of PSG, the youngest scorer in a Champions League semi-final and the youngest to reach 10 goals in the competition.

The heart of the matter...

In absence of the world's most expensive player Neymar, the young Frenchman has stepped up for his club and has led from the front providing the attacking flair almost single-handedly in a team that also has Edison Cavani and Angel Di Maria.

The former Monaco winger scored twice in the second half to take his Ligue 1 goals tally to 51, reaching the milestone in just 88 appearances.

At the age of 20 years, two months and three days he also managed to beat Yannick Stopyra's mark of 21 years, 11 months and nine days, which he accomplished with Sochaux in 1982, to become the youngest player ever to score 50 goals in the history of the competition.

He was talking to the media after his record-breaking game and he revealed that breaking records, scoring goals is what drives him every day. He said: (Via Goal)

"I work hard every day to try to help my team. I try to have fun too - because football is still fun - and scoring goals, breaking records, that's what drives me."
