La Liga's official team of the year has 7 Atletico players, none from Barcelona

Ronaldo and Costa have been included as the two strikers in Liga BBVA’s official team of the year

Liga BBVA have revealed their official team of the year for the 2013/14 La Liga season.

The team has taken an unfamiliar look as the list has totally snubbed Barcelona by excluding all of its players. Lionel Messi, who has been featuring in the squad since 2009, has also been omitted this year which merely reflects a disappointing trophyless campaign for the Catalans.

Meanwhile, La Liga winners, Atletico Madrid, dominates this year’s line up with 7 players in the team. Juanfran, Diego Godin and Filipe Luis all feature in defence while Koke and Gabi take their places in the middle of the pitch. There was no doubt in Thibat Courtois’s selection as the goalkeeper while league’s third highest scorer Diego Costa has been fielded up front.

Atletico’s city rivals, Real Madrid, have only one player up front in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese winger finished the season as the top scorer in the league with 31 goals and joins Diego Costa as one of the two strikers. Ivan Rakitic is the only player from Sevilla to get a place in the squad.

Completing the La Liga best team are a couple of players from Athletic Bilbao. Ander Iturraspe features in the four-man midfield while Aymeric Laporte is the only defender in the back line who isn’t a Rojiblancos player.
