Rayo Vallecano – Real Madrid: The Darkness awaits!

Electricians hired in the Vallecas stadium are working hard so that the game between Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid could finally take place. The match was originally scheduled for a 3:30 EST (1:00 IST) start time, but roughly 45 minutes before kickoff, stories began breaking that lightning around Vallecas had caused power to go out, causing the match to be delayed. “Vandals have cut light cables. It has been sabotaged, the cables couln’t have cut down by themselves, it was an attack on our stage,” said Martin Dam, president of Rayo Vallecano, to Canal +. Then, the club released a photo in which you could see wires cut off. “After the deplorable events that took place on Sunday…Real Madrid C.F. asked the Professional Football League (LFP) to schedule the game on Monday, during the day in order to avoid any potential problems that might again put it at risk,” Real said in a statement on their website. “The president of the LFP has decided, however, that the match will be played at 19:45 and has accepted personal responsibility for it to take place without incident. Real Madrid C.F. bases their request on their concern for the lack of dates for the rescheduling of the match should it not be possible for the match to go ahead today,” they further added. The match was suspended and a date and time of when it would take place would be announced in due course. The LFP have since announced that the match will now be played at 19:45 CEST, Monday 24th Sept. (Around 1 AM IST)

Lionel Messi denies rifts with David Villa:

Lionel Messi has denied that he had issues with David Villa after an argument between the two during Barcelona‘s 2-0 La Liga win over Granada on Saturday. “I have absolutely no problem with Guaje (David Villa’s nickname), in fact it is quite the opposite. Do not look for problems where there are none. These are the kind of things that happen during a match and there was a lot of pressure on us to score the first goal and make the match easier,” said the Argentinean forward. The commotion started just before half-time when Messi blasted Villa for not passing the ball quickly enough, to which the former Valencia striker retorted in equally venemous fashion. “I have no problem with el Guaje [Villa], just the opposite. My history with him is spectacular. This dressing-room is spectacular. Do not look for problems where there are none. We got angry because we want the best for the team and tension makes you react like that.”

Atletico Madrid register their fifth successive win:

The men in Red and White cruised to a comfortable victory against Valladolid, although it wasn’t as easy as they would have expected as the newly promoted side put up a brave fight and the match ended with a dangerous scoreline of 2-1. They currently sit five points adrift of leaders Barcelona. Central defender Dirgo Godin opened the scoring for Los Rojiblancos, while Radamel Falcao doubled the lead after slotting the ball back home from the penalty spot. The visitors were also able to add a goal to their tally after Chelsea loanee Thibaut Courtois made a blunder, thus allowing Alberto Bueno to score from a weak effort. “The fact that the general public have good feelings about this team [it] is healthy, positive and good,” Manager Diego Simeone told reporters at a press conference. “But, what we have done is in the past and what is important is now and the future. We are happy when our supporters are happy, but we live the reality, which is today. We hope to be more competitive and improve game by game. That is the way we will move forward,” he added.

“La Liga is dying,” says Jose Maria Gay:

Economist Jose Maria Gay expressed his concerns over the stature of the Spanish Primera Division in his annual report on the financial developments in Europe’s top five leagues, revealing that Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only two teams moving forward over the past five years, while the other 18 clubs are being constantly deprived of the huge revenues. Gay said: “The Primera Division is not moving forward. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only two clubs that are growing. All the other teams are still in the same situation as five years ago. Spanish football is dying if you ask me. They are five years behind the other big leagues. The poor state of the stadiums is the main reason. The model of the Premier League is bankrupt from a financial point of view. It is based on club ownership, and losses are financed through holding companies. Football is a true reflection of a country’s economy, and France and Germany are leading the way at the moment.”

Real Madrid Legend Guti calls it a day:

Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti announced his retirement on Friday, bringing an end to a 15-year career spent at the Bernabeu. “The decision has been made,” Guti said in statement on Marca.com. “I have received offers but I’ve decided to stop. I can now spend more time with my family. I’m going to train to become a sporting director or a coach and I’d like to train youngsters. I’d really like to coach the Real Madrid youth team. That’s my dream.”

Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid’s Week 5 fixture, in Vallecas had to be postponed after power cables leading to stadium floodlights were cut by vandals.
