What's the news?

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that Jurgen Klopp's troops look afraid in their pursuit of Premier League glory this season, and also claims that the Reds don't have the belief that they can win the Premier League title.

In case you didn't know...

Liverpool have been performing brilliantly under Jurgen Klopp this season and could finally end their 29-year wait for the Premier League title this season.

The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League table, one point clear of their closest rivals Manchester City. The Merseysiders have lost just one league game all season and also boast the best defensive record in the division. They conceded just 15 goals in 27 league games this season.

However, they have struggled a bit in the last few games and managed to win just one out of their last five games in all competitions. They've lacked confidence during those games and have struggled to break opposition defences down.

Nevertheless, their destiny remains in their own hands and the Reds could clinch their first title in the Premier League era if they manage to rediscover their form of the opening few months of the season.

The heart of the matter

Writing in his column for The Times (via Evening Standard), Tony Cascarino believes that Liverpool don’t look like a side who believe they can win the Premier League title.

He said:

"Liverpool don't look like a team confidently chasing the title - they look afraid,”
"They may have got a point against one of their rivals but the bigger picture is that they don't look like they believe they can win the Premier League.
"Given that Marcus Rashford played on with an injury, Liverpool only had to beat a United side who had ten and a half men and had used all their substitutions in the first half.
"At times in the second half United looked very tired and yet Liverpool managed only one shot on target...they were labored and wasteful with the ball."

He further added:

"But this wasn't a one-off for Liverpool. They have looked poor in recent draws against Leicester and West Ham too."

What's next?

Liverpool will play Watford, Everton, and Burnley next in the league before making a trip to Germany to play Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena for the second leg of the Champions League round-of-16 game on March 14.
