Luis Suarez denies 'stamp' on Valencia's Aymen Abdennour

Suarez appeared to stamp on the Valencia centre-back midway through the game on Saturday

Luis Suarez got his hands dirty with yet another controversy after Valencia centre-back Aymen Abdennour accused the striker of deliberately stamping him during Saturday’s La Liga encounter. The Barcelona star who scored a fantastic solo goal in the 1-1 draw against Valencia appeared to have stamped on the Valencia defender five minutes before the goal according to television replays.

Aymen Abdennour, who was instrumental in Valencia’s resolve to stop Barcelona from winning their seventh successive game took to Instagram to show his scars and cuts from Suarez's alleged stamp. His post saw instant reactions from the world of football and questioned Suarez’s sportsmanship yet again.

Suarez, however, rejected any claims to have stamped the Valencia defender on purpose - saying that it was a mistake and he also offered his apology to Abdennour later.

“I did not stand on Abdennour's foot on purpose,” said Suarez.

“I turned around, I stepped on him and that is why I apologized,” he told reporters.

Valencia showed great determination to keep MSN at bay

The former Monaco defender made his anger very clear after falling to the ground, but Suarez pleaded his innocence and the game went on without any cards or repercussions.

The referee was blind to the incident and Suarez scored his 13th league goal of the season moments later after latching on to a fantastic through ball over the Valencia defence by Lionel Messi. Valencia, who have recently appointed Gary Neville as their head coach until the end of the season, showed great determination to keep the dreaded MSN at bay and take an important point after a disappointing season so far.

Aymen Abdennour, who was brought in this year has been solid at centre-back even though he has plied his trade as a fullback for most of his career. Suarez who has been in the thick of controversy ever since his infamous bite in 2010 while playing for Ajax has yet another in his name even though this stamp is yet not been punished or recognized as a genuine one by the Spanish Football Federation.

Barcelona, however, are still sit on top of La Liga after this draw, 2 points ahead of Atletico Madrid and 4 points in front of Real Madrid, but this result would surely be considered as 2 points dropped. Valencia, on the other hand, move one place down the table and sit in 8th position with still a lot to play for till the end of the season.
