Man city must watch De Guzman as the citizens host Swansea

De Guzman

Manchester City – Swansea

Date: Sunday 1st December

Venue: Etihad Stadium

KO: 4:10 pm

Manchester City will look to continue their imperious home form in the Premier League when they take on Swansea at the Etihad on Sunday.

Team News: Manchester City

Vincent Kompany returned to training this week but given his run of injuries and his importance to this City side it seems unlikely they will risk him. Matija Nastasic remains sidelined with a calf injury and won’t be fit for another three weeks. Jack Rodwell is available again, but David Silva and Stevan Jovetic won’t return until City’s final Champions League group game away at Bayern Munich.

Team News: Swansea

Swansea will be without striker Wilfried Bony who suffered a hamstring injury in their Europa League defeat to Valencia on Thursday. Angel Rangel also left that game early with a calf problem but his injury isn’t as serious as Bony’s. Wayne Routledge is fit to play.

Recent Form:

City have won four of their last six matches, and have won every game at home this season. It looks like a difficult task for Swansea who have only won two of their last six in the league, with two draws and two defeats.

Last time out, City battered Spurs 6-0 in what was a thoroughly comprehensive victory demonstrating all of City’s brilliance going forward. It moved City up four places from 8th to 4th.

Swansea beat Fulham away, with Jonjo Shelvey’s 80th minute winner the difference between the two sides. That win moved Swansea up three places to 10th.

Players to Watch:

Manchester City – Sergio Aguero

City boss Manuel Pellegrini recently said he felt Aguero was the third best player in the world behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and on the evidence of this season few would disagree. He has 10 goals in 11 Premier League games, and six in five in the Champions League.

His pace is devastating, and the understanding he and partner Alvaro Negredo have struck up has been outstanding so far.

Swansea – Jonathan De Guzman

Swansea’s midfield star. De Guzman is currently on loan from Villarreal. He’s played 10 times in the league this season, scoring once.

He’s created 14 chances for other players, has an impressive 91% passing accuracy and wins 52% of duels. City will need to make sure he doesn’t get a grip in midfield and dictate the play.

Prediction:

With City so strong at home, it would be foolish to bet against them. City to win 3-1.
